Race 2: LUCKY JAY(4) – TOP BET
Jockey: Francois HERHOLDT – Trainer: Steven V/RENSBURG

LUCKY JAY has only shaped on the polytrack thus far and that will stand him in good stead today. He found traffic problems but still stayed on for a close third on his comeback run over the minimum trip on this course, three runs back. He had a subsequent poor effort on the turf but bounced back to form on this track, two weeks ago. The son of Jay Peg may have been too far out of his ground that day but he finished well for second and this extra furlong will suit him perfectly. He jumps from pole position and is the one to beat.

Race 3: SOOFEE(7)
Jockey: Eldin WEBBER – Trainer: Mitchell WIESE

The Mitch Wiese yard should dominate proceedings here with SOOFEE and SIRAAJ. Both contenders are lightly raced and have done really well over ground in their recent outings. The slight preference is for the former who was pipped over this c & d under today’s jockey in his penultimate outing and he had he holds his stablemate safe on that effort.

Jockey: Raymond DANIELSON – Trainer:  Tara LAING

DRILL SARGEANT is arguably the province’s best stayer and he was given a break after only managing a disappointing 4th, three runs back. His previous form shows that he is much better than that and he has had two fair comeback runs over shorter. The son of Dynasty will love this step-up in trip and he is very well-weighted in this contest. He will be cherry-ripe and should take some beating.

Jockey: Muzi YENI – Trainer: Yvette BREMNER

COPPER PARADE had shown to be top class from an early stage in his career but had some setbacks. Howe- ver, the ageing son of Lecture has found a new lease on life since arriving in PE and he recently exceeded expectations on the Highveld. He won a minor local feature at Arlington in October and then went up to Gauteng and won a graded contest quite comfortably. He wasn’t disgraced when 4th, again in a Highveld feature last time over 1160m. He now returns to his hometown and his conditioner has found an ideal race for him to make a winning comeback. The obvious fear is how he travelled back, but he drops in class and is extremely well-weighted. He is the horse to beat. That said, RUSSIAN MIG loves this c & d and will test the son of Lecture.

Race 8: MANONTHECATWALK(16) (Each Way)
Jockey: Juan-Paul v.d.MERWE – Trainer: Grant PADDOCK

MANONTHECATWALK has a decent turn of foot and that was evident when he ran on smartly to win his last start over a mile at Arlington, three weeks ago. He faces slightly stronger here but is even better on this longer run-in and has no issues with the drop in trip. He is much better drawn and should be competitive with just 52kgs on his back. That said, this race is another wide open event.
