PREVIEW: AmaZulu coach Pablo Franco optimistic about hurting Kaizer Chiefs at a packed Moses Mabhida Stadium as race for top-eight intensifies

Amakhosi share this ambition with AmaZulu, who they visit this Sunday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in a league tie.

Chiefs’ have been blowing hot and cold in their recent games, with three defeats, a draw and single victory in the last five outings. AmaZulu’s path reads similar, with two wins, as many defeats and a draw in five games.

This perhaps justifies Usuthu coach Pablo Franco’s sentiments about the inconsistencies he has picked up in the DStv Premiership over the past few months.

“One of the few things that I saw after the Africa Cup of Nations break is that most of the teams are having ups and downs and we are including ourselves in that group,” said the AmaZulu mentor.

Chiefs are in position eight with 34 points while Usuthu are 12th with 32 points. A win for Franco’s man could easily advance their course ahead of the penultimate round of the season.

Franco is aware that wherever Cavin Johnson’s Chiefs play, the turnout is usually impressive, and he expects nothing less at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

“It is a massive one. Chiefs are coming and a lot of fans are going to be coming to support them and I think they are going to have the motivation to give them joy,” said Franco.

“They are a big team with top players, but if we perform the way we performed against Stellenbosch and we face the Chiefs game with that intensity and concentration that we usually have when we have these kinds of games.

“I am sure it is going to be an amazing show and it is going to be tough. It is going to depend on the performance that we display,” Franco added.

Sunday’s encounter is set to headline the weekend’s fixtures as Cape Town Spurs take on TS Galaxy, and Golden Arrows host Chippa United will raise the curtain with 15:00 kick-offs before Amakhosi and Usuthu start at 17:30.
