TRISTFUL ran a decent race when finishing third over 1600m on this course last time. His penultimate run when finishing 3.7 lengths behind Jet Dark in the Grade 1 Champions Cup catches the eye. It is encouraging that the cheekpieces have been re-fitted and that Gavin Lerena steps back into the saddle. If not in need of the run, he should take a power of beating.

SWEET SYMPHONY finished 1 length behind MAQUETTE in her first run out the maidens. She is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today which is enough for the tables to be turned. The daughter of Twice Over is back over her favourite C&D. She has plenty of scope and with her handy galloping mass of 54.5kgs, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

PREEMPTIVE STRIKE showed good improvement in his last start over this distance on the polytrack. He cast a shoe in running which makes the effort that much more encouraging. He should strip a much fitter horse this afternoon and Anton Marcus may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

IMBEJEJE followed up her maiden win with a good third-place finish over 1000m on the polytrack. She raced from just off the pace and fought hard all the way to the line. She finished second in her only attempt over this C&D. The daughter of Var has plenty of scope and from her good draw of four, she may be the one to beat.

RUN TO DENMARK is much better than his last start suggests as he was reported to be not striding out. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He has won once and finished third twice from four starts over this distance. The 6yo gelding takes a drop in class and should be cherry-ripe. If switching off early, he can return to winning ways.
