Hollywoodbets Greyville was the place to be on Boxing Day as a jam-packed crowd was in attendance to witness yet another leg of the KZN Hollywoodbets Sizzling Summer Challenge.
It was business as usual for the top four jockeys on the leaderboard with all of them accumulating 40 points or more, Keagan de Melo, Anton Marcus and Warren Kennedy all rode a winner, whilst S’manga Khumalo managed to ride a few places.

With de Melo winning on the proverbial penalty kick of the afternoon in the form of Themba and finishing in the money three times, he managed to extend his lead to 19.5 points from Anton Marcus back in second. Marcus started the day with a good win on Round The Horn, followed up with two good second-place finishes which ensured he remains in a striking position on the leaderboard.

Hot on the trail of the leaders was Warren Kennedy. He managed to accumulate the most points on the day with 72. Kennedy’s one winner for the raiding Paul Peter stable on Crime Scene and a few places including an impressive second on Vistula in the Flamboyant Stakes saw him move ahead of S’manga Khumalo into third.

On the trainers log, Paul Lafferty extended his seven-point lead from Sunday to a massive 45 point lead over Hollywoodbets sponsored Garth Puller back in second. Lafferty had one winner and managed to accumulate 44 points from his five runners with his one winner coming in the form of Victorious Man.

Aside from the trainer’s log, Lafferty also seems to be dominating the horses log with three horses in the top six positions. Bint El Malak leads the charge for Lafferty with her stable companion Explosive Beauty one point behind her in second and back tied for fifth is Noble Flight.

The next raceday for the Hollywoodbets KZN Sizzling Summer Challenge will be this Sunday at Hollywoodbets Greyville, it also happens to be the last KZN meeting of the year. CARBON FIBRE has only had the two starts where he has finished close up to the winner in both races. He steps up to the ten furlongs here, but the way he finished off his last outing over 1750M would suggest that this is very much within his reach.

BABY SHOOZ has his peak run here and retains the services of Anton Marcus. He has only had the one win so far, but the manner in which he dispensed with the opposition last time out to win that race which was over this c&d, was encouraging and he looks capable of following up here, despite a wide draw.

MASTER VISION returns from a 10-week rest but gets Anton Marcus in the saddle. He is a versatile sort who has run second in his last two outings and will be looking to exit the maiden ranks here. From a handy draw, he should be right up there in the firing line.
