Race 1 – 06:15 – Class 4 – 1200m
Selections: 8 – 4 – 9 – 12 – 11
A tricky Class 4 opener over the 6-furlongs gets the meeting underway at Sha Tin, this Sunday 2 February. Three debutantes and a fair amount of unexposed form will leave punters pondering over their options. As always, in a race such as this, it is worth keeping an eye on the betting boards for a better gauge. With that said, it could be the Whyte trained WAYFOONG STAR who tops the betting at the jump. He was strongly fancied on debut, when over-racing early on and that put pay to his winning chance in the closing stages. Despite that, he managed to stay on stoutly at the finish and if settling a little better this time, the retaining rider should find the winners’ enclosure.

Race 2 – 06:45 – Class 4 – 1200m
Selections: 1 – 6 – 3 – 10 – 11
The second race is another Class 4 sprint over the 6-furlongs and it’s the top-weighted POWER KING who gets the nod for first prize. He has overcome three wide barriers in his last three starts and he now finds some relief in that department, having landed gate 6 for his 5th career outing. He was just touched off when finding favouritism in the markets last time and with Purton up this time, it should be smooth sailing for the son of Written Tycoon. Joao Moreira has hopped off the former and jumped aboard the debutante, JADE PHOENIX and that has to be respected. The betting should be a decent guide of what his connections are expecting first up.

Race 3 – 07:15 – Class 5 – 1400m
Selections: 5 – 8 – 2 – 13 – 10
The third race brings us to the value bet on the card, with GALAXY RACER picked for first. He showed useful improvement last time out, when dropping into this class and stepping up to this trip. That was when overcoming a wide barrier and he finds a perfect draw for his second effort at this level. The blinkers go on for the first time and the experienced Ho takes the ride. He could be worth following at decent odds. He is 2-pounds better off with the second selection, SEIZE THE SPIRIT on that latest run and the latter will need to be respected with Moreira up this time, despite the wide barrier.

Race 4 – 07:45 – Class 4 – 1400m
Selections: 10 – 2– 14 – 3 – 7
ADONIS will be the pick for the lions share of the prize money in the 4th race on the card, albeit a tentative one. The son of Exceed and Excel has been in useful form prior to his latest effort, when spoiling his chances at the start. He has found a few wide barriers in recent times, but he now lands a perfect draw for his third outing since rising into this class and with the experienced Ho in the irons, he could present another ‘value bet’ opportunity for his followers. CIRCUIT HASSLER has also found little luck with draws of late and that continues here, when he will have gate 10 to overcome. With that said, Moreira has finished in third and fourth from 2 engagements on the son of Shocking and if there is anyone who can negate the draw, he has the credentials to do so.

Race 5 – 06:15 – Class 3 – 1600m
Selections: 5 – 4 – 2 – 8 – 11
The fifth race on the card takes us through to the half-way mark and SUPER ELEGANCE will hopefully get the job done for punters. He finally lands a useful draw and will be looking to go one better this time, after finding the second box in his last three starts. Zac Purton looks an attractive jockey booking and he should be tough to beat here. MONICA had absolutely no luck in running last time out and he will be hoping to find a smooth path through this time. He too has finished second in his last three outings and with Moreira retaining the ride, he should be the biggest danger.

Race 6 – 06:15 – Class 4 – 1650m
Selections: 13-2-4-12-9
The first of two races on the All-Weather surface greets punters in the 6th race and it’s the So trained, FOODIE PRINCESS, who should be the main contender here. He has shown a fair amount of resolve in his last three starts on this surface, when rallying late from well of the pace and with Moreira retaining the ride, he’ll be right there in the finish. DREAM WARRIORS is the best of the rest and from a slightly improved barrier, Karis Teetan regains the ride. He wasn’t disgraced in his first attempt on this surface last time and if ridden more patiently, he looks a big threat.

Race 7 – 06:15 – Class 3 – 1650m
Selections: 8-1-3-7-12The second all-weather contest comes in the very next race, the 7th and RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE will be looking to build on his two good recent efforts. He was bumped at the start and hampered at the 600m mark last time out and with less interference in running this time, he should be the one to beat. He lands another handy draw and gets the services of Joao Moreira, who will give his followers a whole lot more confidence this time. HOLY HEART finished right behind the former last time out and he finds a much-improved draw this time. He is a useful sort on this surface and deserves plenty of respect.

Race 8 – 06:15 – Class 3 – 1000m
Selections: 5-12-9-8-2
Back on the Turf for the eighth race on the card and it brings us to our best bet, HARMONY RICH. He finished behind a useful sprinter on debut and followed that up with another solid effort last time out. Drawn on the right side for his return to the same course and distance, he gets the services of Zac Purton who rode him on debut and he should be tough to beat. KA YING MASTER has been very effective over this course and distance, in his four outings here and with Moreira up for the first time, he deserves plenty of respect and should be the biggest danger to the top one.

Race 9 – 06:15 – Class 3 – 1200m
Selections: 3-8-1-12-10
WIND N GRASS has shown a fair amount of early toe in both of his starts so far. He improved last time out when employing similar tactics, but he should relish the drop to the 6-furlongs this time. With just 8-career starts to his name, he has found the winners enclosure on no less than 4-occasions and that certainly confirms his ability. The Irish-bred son of Lawman has plenty of scope for more and if allowed to get an early lead, he could be tough to peg back in the closing stages. INNER FLAME appears to be the biggest danger. Unbeaten in his first two starts, he steps up to this league now and he looks progressive enough to make his presence felt.

Race 10 – 06:15 – Class 3 – 1800m
Selections: 6-7-8-10-4
The 10th and final race on the program presents another nice opportunity for Joao Moreira to add to his growing win tally. He rides the Lor trained, SUPER OASIS, who clearly enjoyed stepping up to this trip last time out. He finds a much-better draw this time and with plenty of scope for further improvement, it is hard to see him not winning this. ENJOYING finished right in front of the former last time out, but he lands another wide barrier and will be relying on luck in running to go into contention at the business end. With that said, he has scope to improve and must be respected.
