International Racing: Bordeaux – Saturday 23 May 2020

International Racing: Angers – Saturday 23rd May 2020

Racing heads to Bordeaux on Saturday and plays host to a ten-race programme which includes a Group 2 contest and two Listed feature races. The best bet is AMYR DU SOLEIL who is in Race 1. He won a Group 1 contest over ten furlongs by six lengths in October last year. If not in need of today’s run, he should notch up his fourth career victory.

The first race on
the card is a Group 2 event over 1900m for four-year olds. AMYR DU SOLEIL was an impressive winner of a Group 1 race over 1900m at Saint Cloud in
October last year. He would have been given the time to strengthen up since
that outing. Regular pilot Julien Auge rides the son of Amer once again and the
pair should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. ARTEMIS is a filly taking on the males. She was not disgraced when finishing
third in a Group 1 contest last time. She won her only attempt over this
distance. She does return from a seven month break this afternoon, during which
time she would have strengthened up. The engagement of jockey Olivier Peslier
is encouraging and the combination merit healthy respect. MIN’HA finished eight lengths behind the second selection in her last start. As
the pair meet on the same weight terms this afternoon, she may have to settle
for the same result. Jockey Valentin Sugay takes the ride for the first time
and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters
most.
Race 2 – 164EME DERBY DU MIDI (Listed)
The next feature
race is a Listed contest for three-year olds over 1900m. FROHSIM is a winner of his last two starts over this distance on the all-weather
surface. The transfer back to the turf shouldn’t pose an issue today as he won
on debut on this surface. The son of Dabirsim should come into this contest fit
and well, and may be the one they all have to beat. FANTASTIC SPIRIT is lightly
raced having had just the five starts to date. He has won twice and finished
third twice in his career thus far. This slight concern is that he may be a
better horse on the all-weather surface, however he looks to have class and can
run into the money. SAYIDAH
KODIAC
was an impressive maiden
winner over 1700m on the all-weather surface at Pornichet. She does take a rise
in class and distance this afternoon, but she is lightly raced and looks to
have more to come. Jockey Eddy Hardouin steps back into the saddle and the
combination cannot be ignored.
Race 3 – PRIX ARMAND DIBOS
ANCA is the value bet on this afternoon’s
programme. She took on much stronger company in her last start when racing in a
Listed race over 2100m. She won on debut over nine furlongs at Longchamp. The
daughter of French Fifteen should come into this race a much fitter horse and
with Olivier Peslier keeping faith in the ride, she may be the one they all
have to beat. NO TURNING won his maiden well at the second time of
asking over nine furlongs at Lyon La Soie. He does take on stronger opposition
this afternoon, but the manner in which he won last time suggests there is more
to come. If suited to the turf surface, he may be the one to throw out the
biggest challenge to the top selection. AMERICAN BEACH won her
maiden well over a mile on this course last time. She has won once and finished
second once from as many starts on this course. She should have no issues with
the step up in distance this afternoon and must be included in all bets.
The last of the
feature races is for four-year olds and older over 1900m. MR SATCHMO is one of the better bets on this afternoon’s card. He ran a fair race
when travelling to Qatar to contest in a Group 1 contest last time. He has won
twice, finished second once and third once from five attempts over this
distance. The son of Me Sidney loves racing on this course having won twice
from three starts. Olivier Peslier who has had success aboard him in the past,
steps back into the saddle today and the pair should find themselves in the
winner’s enclosure. AUBEVOYE’S last two starts on the all-weather surface
over ten furlongs have been good. The son of Le Harve placed in his only
attempt over this course and distance. Cristian Demuro knows him well and the
pair merit healthy respect. JOE
FRANCAIS
is a winner of his last
two starts, the latest of which was over this course and distance. He faces his
toughest test to date, but he looks to have ability and may be up to the task
at hand. If fit and well, he should be right there in the run down to the wire.

AL EFREETA was considered
good enough to contest in a Group 1 race last time, but she did not live up to
expectations. She produced two good runs prior to that when finishing second.
The daughter of Dahess would have strengthened up during the seven-month break
and if fit and well today, she should take a power of beating. CHAFIKA produced a promising debut effort when finishing under three lengths
behind the winner over ten furlongs at Pau on the all-weather surface. The grey
filly would have come on with the experience and with the natural improvement
that is expected, she should be right there in the run down to the wire. NAMIRA AL CHAM is the stable companion of the top selection. She produced a promising
debut effort when finishing fifth over a mile at Toulouse. She would have gained
from the experience and should enjoy the step up in distance today. From her
good barrier position of three, she must be included in all bets.
Race 6 – PRIX ACHILLE FOULD
MENSEN ERNST ran a good race when stepping up to this
class last time. He finished second, three lengths off the winner over ten
furlongs at Toulouse. He has won twice from three starts on this course. He
tries today’s distance for the first time and breeding suggests that the extra
trip will be right up his alley. From pole position, he should take a power of
beating. INFLUX was impressive when winning his maiden at the
third time of asking over this distance. He does take a step up in class today,
but the manner in which he won last time suggests there is plenty more in the
tank. Regular pilot Julien Auge does duty once again and the combination should
be the ones to pick up the pieces should the top selection fluff his lines. PILGRIM showed good improvement when finishing second in his last start. The
manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he will enjoy
the step up to this afternoon’s distance. If fit and well, he should be right
there in the run down to the finishing post.
PIRATA TESORO has very good recent form lines to his
credit. He has won twice, finished second twice and third once from six
attempts over this distance. He gets the services of 2.5kg claiming apprentice
Guillaume Guedj-Gay who has had success aboard the son of Hurricane Run in the
past. From pole position, he looks to be the one to side with here. PICNIC ROYAL finished third in stronger company in his last start. He has finished
third once from three attempts over this distance. If not in need of this
outing, he may be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top
selection. He gets the services of a 4kg claiming apprentice which should help
his chances. MAD RIVER has not finished too far off the winner in
recent outings. He has won three times, finished second three times and third
once from ten attempts over this distance. 2.5kg claiming apprentice Jules
Mobian knows him well and the combination cannot be ignored.
GEGE DE FAUST is filly taking on the boys and she is a
winner of both her career outings to date. She returns from a lengthy 11-month
absence this afternoon, during which time she would have strengthened up. She
does have a wide draw to overcome this afternoon, but she gets the services of
Julien Auge who will give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle. She
has a good chance of keeping her unbeaten record intact. FIRENZE DU PECOS is another filly taking on the males and she is a winner of her last two
outings. It must be noted that she won her only start on this course. If seeing
out the extra distance on offer today, she may be the one to pose the biggest
threat to the top choice. CROUCRACQ
may be the first male past the
winning post. He loves racing over this distance having won twice and finishing
third once from as many attempts. He has won once and finished third once from
as many outings on this course. He returns from a lengthy eleven-month break
today and if not in need of this outing, should be right there in the run down
to the wire.
Race 9 – PRIX JEAN FERRIERE
AKINATHOR GAME was ultra-impressive when winning his last
two starts over this distance under today’s pilot Julien Auge. He should come
into this race as one of the fitter horses and with a bit of luck in running
from his wide barrier position, he has a good chance of notching up the
hat-trick. FRENCH PLAISIR has not finished too far off the winner in
recent outings. He has won once and finished second once from three starts on
this course. Olivier Peslier takes the ride for the first time and he may be
able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most. KANO KEFI has decent recent form lines to his credit. He won his only start on
this course. His record over today’s distance is good having won twice,
finishing second twice and third twice from eight starts. He gets the services
of a 3kg claiming apprentice and if able to overcome his wide draw, he may be
right there in the fight to the finish.
Race 10 – PRIX LOUIS DUBOURG
This is a weak Class
4 Handicap that closes off the meeting and caution is advised. The tentative
first selection is CHOCOLAT DAY who’s last two starts have been decent. He
has finished second once and third once from five attempts over this distance.
He likes this course as he has finished second twice from four starts. He gets
the services of Maxime Foulon for the first time and he may be able to coax
that little bit extra out of the son of Rajsaman where it matters most. FLASHY is a filly taking on males and she is slowly showing signs of returning
to best form. She has won once, finished second twice and third once from
sixteen attempts over this distance. She should come into this contest as one
of the fitter horses and she merits healthy respect. PEDRAZA LESCRIBAA is a maiden taking on winners, but she has
not finished too far off the winner in her last three starts. She makes her
course debut with Olivier Peslier in the saddle and if suited to the track,
should have a chance of running into the money.
