MANTASTIC did
not get the clearest of passages when finishing fourth last time out over a
mile, just over two lengths behind the winner and did put in two solid
performances in two feature races over this distance prior to that run. He
jumps from gate three and is taken to be today’s value bet. BONVICINI is
a 4yr old filly taking on the boys. She was bumped during her last start when
finishing seventh over this distance last time out in a Group 2 race, but still
ended up 2.2L behind the winner. She is drawn one outside the top choice and
could be his biggest danger. SAVACOOL is a 6yr old mare and is
the stable companion to the top pick. She has competed in the same races as him
in his last three outings and overraced in her last start when finishing just
in front of her stable mate last time out over the mile, but on her prior two
runs over today’s trip, the positions have been reversed. She has a slightly
wider draw in gate seven, but either way, there should not be too much between
the pair when they hit the line.
Race 7
PHAISTOS stayed on well when third last time
out over a mile, five and a half lengths back from the winner, but did finish
second in his penultimate run over seven furlongs, just under a length behind
the winner. He has his peak run today after returning from an 18 week absence
and has finished third in a subsequent barrier trial. From his handy draw two,
he could be the one to side with in this line-up. EVALINA is
a 5yr old mare taking on males, but she had to be switched at the 150M mark
just when she was starting to build up her finish and should have ended up closer
to the winner than she eventually did. She will have to negotiate a wide draw
ten, but given her style of racing, this may not be as big an issue. OUTRAGEOUS won
by just under two lengths last time out over seven furlongs when returning from
an 18 week rest. He hit the front at the 300M pole and seemed to win with a bit
in hand. He is drawn one inside the latter and should be included in all bets.
Race 8
VIRIDINE returns
from a 15 week rest, but has had the benefit of two barrier trial, winning his
latest to prove his well-being. He has his hat-trick run after winning his last
two runs over six furlongs. He drops in trip and faces draw nine, but the trio
of victories is very much on the cards. VARDA is a 4yr old filly taking on
boys. She on the other hand missed out on her hat-trick when finishing fourth
last time out in a feature race when dropping down from 1100M to five furlongs.
She was making good late progress that day and seems likely to enjoy going back
over 1100M. She is drawn one inside the former and could emerge as his biggest
threat. INVICTUS
SALUTE is a
5yr old mare who has cracked pole position. She had her consistency rewarded
with a victory last time out over today’s distance. She may prove good enough
to complete her double here.
Race 9
SUPER has
reeled off his hat-trick, winning his last two outings over a mile, but was
victorious three runs back over seven furlongs by nearly five and a half
lengths, so the drop in distance should be no problem. He has pulled pole
position and is made today’s best bet. GREAT NEWS is a 4yr old filly taking
on the boys, but she has won two of her last three runs, the latest over seven
furlongs by a head. She has only had the seven outings to date, posting four
wins, two seconds and one third place finish. From her gate two, she is likely
to turn in another honest performance today. TWO BIG FAR is seldom far off the action and jumped
awkwardly before ending up in sixth place last time out over 1300M, two lengths
back from the winner. He has a handy gate four and will have 3kgs taken off his
back thanks to his claiming apprentice.
