Race 1 – 12:45 – 2200m – Class 3 Handicap
Selections: 3 – 1 – 5 – 2 – 6
BLASTOISE has followed up well since picking up that 2nd career win three starts back, with two encouraging efforts to finish second. Hamelin retains the ride and the son of Ambidexter should relish the extra ground here. If all goes to plan, he has a great shout at capitalizing on what appears to be a competitive rating of 68. GOLDEN SPECTRUM finished right behind the top selection in that latest outing and with Joao Moreira picking up the ride this time, his followers will have the added confidence. He appears to be in a good place right now and has the credentials to go close once again. TANGMERE has featured prominently since picking up that win double and he too will relish going the extra now. From a plum draw, he must be included.

Race 2 – 13:15 – 1200m – Class 4 Handicap
Selections: 6 – 1 – 8 – 9 – 7
ALL BEST FRIENDS went close last time out when returning to this course and distance. The son of Street Cry returned with a cut leg post-race and there is no telling how much that may have affected his performance. From a useful gate, Teetan retains the ride and the pair should be tough to beat here. AMBITIOUS HEART showed the expected improvement last time out, when dropping into this class. He did well to overcome that wide draw and should benefit from the slight improvement in the draws this time around. Hamelin retains the ride and, on his course and distance credentials, he’ll be involved in the finish. TRAVEL DATUK is drawn wide, but on current form should feature with Purton up and HAPPY TANGO has gone close over this course and distance, and he should feature from pole.

Race 3 – 13:45 – 1650m – Class 4 Handicap
Selections: 2 – 10 – 1 – 8 – 4
ORIENTAL ELITE finds a much-improved draw for his return to the same course and distance where he featured prominently from a wide barrier last time. He finds conditions to suit and with his regular rider back aboard, should be one of the leading contenders. GREEN ENVY continues to slip in the ratings, and one gets the feeling that the son of Shamexpress looks set to go right into contention off that diminished mark of 43. Moreira jumps aboard and the pair must go in. The top weight, CLASSIC POSH, arrives off the back of a win and should enjoy the extra 200m here. Purton retains the ride and that will give his followers some added confidence.

Race 4 – 14:15 – 1200m – Class 4 Handicap
Selections: 1 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 9
SKY SHOW was impressive last time out, when picking up his maiden win at just the second time of asking. He finds an improved draw for his return to the same course and distance and with Purton retaining the ride, he looks progressive enough to follow up with a win. DECISIVE TWELVE looks set to pick up his maiden win in the next two starts, having featured prominently in all three outings so far. He steps out at the Valley Course for the first time and if overcoming the wide barrier, he’ll be involved in the finish. SPRINT FORWARD is also having his course debut at Happy Valley. He gets he blinkers fitted and lands a slightly improved draw. The drop in trip should suit and with Moreira up, he deserves inclusion.

Race 5 – 14:45 – 1650m – Class 4 Handicap
Selections: 1 – 6 – 5 – 3 – 7
RIGHT HONOURABLE drops into a class where he has picked up 3 wins from 5 attempts. All three victories have come over this course and distance and with a bit of luck in running from gate 8, he has the form to overhaul this field. BEST FOR YOU tries the Valley circuit for the first time on the back of some useful form at Sha Tin over the 1400m. He should relish the slight step up in trip and with the 3-pound claimer up this time, should go close. STARLIGHT has been slipping in the ratings and looks well handicapped for this rise in trip. Drawn wide, the 10-pound claiming apprentice may have to ride him patiently from off the early speed, but he will be making late headway and rates a threat.

Race 6 – 15:15 – 1000m – Class 4 Handicap
Selections: 12 – 2 – 1 – 4 – 7
OVERSUBSCRIBED has been in solid recent form despite finding some tricky barriers to overcome. The son of Reward For Effort finds pole position this time and with a very handy galloping weight to shoulder, he should find the lead early and may be tough to catch. WE THE SOUTH followed up that win in his penultimate run with an eye-catching effort last time out. Both outings were over this course and distance. The speedy front-running son of Your Song finds conditions to suit from a plum draw and looks a threat. FORZA ANGEL deserves a mention after showing good improvement last time out when dropping to this trip. With the good early gate speed he showed on that occasion, he should be able to overcome another tricky draw and must be included.

Race 7 – 15:45 – 1800m – Class 2 Handicap
Selections: 4 – 5 – 1 – 3 – 9
SUPER OASIS was just touched off after having the cross noseband fitted for the first time in that latest effort. Having featured prominently in the betting, he was caught in the closing stages. Antoine Hamelin takes the ride for his first attempt at Happy Valley and he has the form to win this. COLUMBUS COUNTY had solid form prior to that last start which he had valid excuses for. He has plenty of scope and with Purton regaining the mount, he rounds up what appears to be a 2-horse race. Both BUTTERFIELD and INSAYSHABLE have good recent form behind them and are more than capable of finding the minor money here.

Race 8 – 16:15 – 1650m – Class 3 Handicap
Selections: 5 – 9 – 1 – 10 – 3
BEST ALLIANCE finds a much-improved draw after that very good performance when overcoming barrier 12 last time. He has been a model of consistency over this course and distance in recent times, continuing that form into this class. Hamelin takes the mount and it will be difficult to deny his winning credentials here. RICH AND LUCKY arrives on the back of a win when having his first attempt over this course and distance. The cross noseband seemed to do the trick there and with Purton retaining from a good draw, he’ll be right there. SUNSHINE WARRIOR has clearly enjoyed the recent switch to this course and distance. A progressive son of Pierro, he finds another solid draw and it appears as though a useful partnership is developing between him and Schofield. He could still be ahead of the handicapper and must go in.

Race 9 – 16:50 – 1200m – Class 3 Handicap
Selections: 7 – 5 – 1 – 6 – 3
HIGHLAND FORTUNE clearly enjoyed his first Happy Valley outing last time out, when showing some good improvement. He showed useful speed over the reduced trip and from barrier 4 with Purton up, he should find the run of the race here. He has slipped to a competitive rating and on current form his first Hong Kong win looks imminent. ISLAND SHINE has found solid form since being fitted with the blinkers. Having featured prominently in his last three starts over this course and distance, he must be included from another good draw. FANTASY has a solid record over this trip, as he steps out for his course debut. Despite the wide barrier, he will be looking for cover just off the leading line and with Moreira sticking with the ride, must be a big factor here.
