Neil Morrice: International Racing – Wednesday 3 June 2020

Neil Morrice Best Bets & Tips

Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips for Wednesday’s racing taking place at Yarmouth and Kempton Park.

Yarmouth Best Bets

Race 2: No4 – JOHNNY KIDD
Trainer: Andrew Balding – Jockey: Oisin Murphy

JOHNNY KID does not possess a turn of foot but will be suited by the long straight on his seasonal return at this seaside course. His form last year picked up when his trainer elevated him to staying distances, with his best effort his last. On that occasion he was narrowly denied at Kempton, and though the Balding horses often need there first run back its hoped he’s straight enough to do himself justice.

Race 5: No4 – ADDITIONAL
Trainer: Martyn Meade – Jockey: Danny Tudhope

If my take on ADDITIONAL is correct he will not suffer from inexperience and deliver on his eagerly-awaited racecourse debut. The son of 2,000 Guineas hero Night of Thunder has shown in his work that he could be of similar ability to his very smart former stablemate and half-brother Acclaim, winner of the Group 1 Prix de la Foret and the Group 2 Challenge Stakes. He has of course a way to go before that can be proved, but if as good as he looks at home, he should win this.

Race 6: No8 – CITY WANDERER
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Silvestre de Sousa

CITY WANDEROR ended the 2019 campaign with great gusto landing three of his last four starts and developing a fine understanding with De Sousa. The form from the last of those at Windsor has worked out well, and he’s the type of progressive individual his trainer can do well within mile handicaps through the summer.

Race 7: No10 – WINE FLIGHT (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Charles Bishop

This doesn’t look the hottest of maidens and a chance is taken at big odds with WINE FLIGHT. The daughter of Gregorian was too backward to make it to the course last year, but has developed and could put in an earning run to reward win and place backing.

Kempton Park Best Bets

Race 3: No12 – SUN BEAR
Trainer: John Gosden – Jockey: Frankie Dettori

Although things have been made a shade trickier for her with just one foe outside her in the gate, SUN BEAR has the ability to give short shrift to her rivals and provide owner Lady Bamford consolation for the defeat of Tropbeau in Monday’s French Guineas. The daughter of Dubawi encountered very testing conditions when second in a back end maiden at Nottingham on her only start, but has trained beautifully on a Polytrack surface at home.

Race 4: No10 – BORN WITH PRIDE
Trainer: William Haggas – Jockey: Tom Marquand

The Group 3 Classic Trial can fall to BORN WITH PRIDE. The daughter of Born To Sea posted a 20-1 shocker on her only start last November in the Montrose Stakes, a Listed race at Newmarket. She takes on males as this is the only suitable trial for her big target, the Investec Oaks, for which she can state her case with a victory over HIGHLAND CHIEF, who is worth a saver.

Race 6: No11 – ROMOLA (Each Way)
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Ryan Moore

Classic winner Billesdon Brook sets the standard for the others to aim at but one that might go well at a bigger price is ROMOLA. The Pivotal filly will always enjoy cut in the ground on turf but showed with her narrow defeat to Kuwait Currency in a Class 3 handicap on final 2019 start that she’s just the type of filly her trainer can graduate up through the ranks in her four-year-old campaign. Furthermore, she’s done plenty of work ahead of this reappearance.

Race 10: No7 – PERFECT SYMPHANY (Each Way)
Trainer: Mark Pattinson – Jockey: Adam Kirby

Courtesy of a good draw close to the rail, PERFECT SYMPHANY can make an impact in this concluding sprint handicap. The Dandy Man gelding finished last of 14 on his most recent visit to this course and is more of a Lingfield specialist, but he’s become much more consistent and is fully tuned for this first outing since late February, and can put in another earning run.
