Race 4

A 3yr old filly and a 7yr old mare could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but today’s best bet, JUDDER is taken as the firm top choice. She has won two of her last three runs, the latest over seven furlongs by nearly three and a half lengths. She hit the front as the field entered the home straight and then strode away from the opposition to win with a bit in hand. From gate six, she could prove difficult to topple. MOUNT HEIDI steps up in trip after finishing eighth last time out over seven furlongs, but just three lengths behind the winner. She overraced and then hung in the straight that day and although draw wide out at gate ten, she could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick. SO YOU’RE MAGIC on the other hand has cracked pole position and drops back in trip after finishing third last time out over 2100M, four and a half lengths back from the winner. He missed out on his hat-trick that day and was immediately rested for 15 weeks. He returns here after having finished second in both his barrier trials.

Race 5

With the late scratching of one of his main rivals, the door may have opened for ONE MORE PINOT to post his second career victory. He had his consistency rewarded with his maiden win by a head last time out over six furlongs and whilst taking on stronger here, he may prove good enough to complete his double today. His draw four will do him no harm. HALCYON DAYS made solid improvement to win his maiden race by a neck in his last outing over 1100M. His jockey found himself in hot water for excessive use of his whip for that ride, but if this has not had a detrimental effect on the colt, be should be right up there when they hit the line, jumping from his gate seven. FIGHTING FAITH is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she was bumped at the start of her last start and then raced four wide into the straight before ending up fifth over six furlongs, four and a half lengths adrift of the victor. She will have to negotiate a wide draw eleven, but gets the services of ex-SA jockey Robbie Fradd so she will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

Race 6

There are four unraced entrants in this field and as it normally the case in these types of contests, a close eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to what the various connections feel about their chances of winning on debut. Of the raced runners, QUIZZICAL DEEL may prove to be the best. He is seldom too far off the action and tried to go from jump to wire before finishing fourth last time out over 1700M, just over two and a half lengths behind the winner. He returns from a 14 week rest and has not has the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust. He will have to deal with a wide gate thirteen, but give his style of racing, this may not be a big drawback. MISS PIERPOINT is a 4yr old filly taking on males. She disappointed last time out when stepping up to a mile and quickly drops back to what appears to be a more suitable distance. She is drawn one inside the top selection and has her first run for her new trainer. If fully settled into her new surroundings she should be involved in the finish. ENOLABA LASS is a 3yr old filly who makes her debut after having had three barrier trials, finishing third in her last two. She is drawn in gate eight and may prove to be the best of the debutantes.

Race 7

SAVANNA JEUNE is a 6yr old mare taking on boys, but she has consistent formlines to her name and finished second last time out over six furlongs, two lengths back from the winner. She hit the front at the 150M pole that day and was only run out of it late. She has a handy draw five and will have 2kgs removed from her back thanks to her claiming apprentice, Jaden Lloyd, who is the son of ex-SA jockey Jeff Lloyd. NANAKOROBI YAOKI is a 4yr old filly who followed up her penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a second-place finish next time out over the same c&d, two and a half lengths behind the winner. She made good late progress in that contest and from a wide draw thirteen, she is likely to be dropped out of the race in the early stages and should then be picking off the frontrunners over the closing stages. USURP on the other hand has pulled pole position and will have Robbie Fradd in the irons. He stayed on well to finish fourth in his latest outing over seven furlongs, three and a half lengths back from the winner. He should be included in all bets.
