International Racing: Monday 11 May 2020 – Swan Hill

An open looking nine-race programme is scheduled for Swan Hill on Monday. The best bet is IRISH PLAYBOY in Race 3. He is a lightly raced sort who was in need of his last start. He finished second in his first two outings which shows he has ability. He should strip a much fitter horse today and will take a power of beating today.

Race 1
MISS TENTHOUSAND is a daughter of Spirit Of Boom from the
Cairon Maher & David Eustace stable with apprentice Teodore Nugent doing
duty. She has not barrier trialled coming into this contest, but this isn’t the
strongest of fields and she doesn’t need to be a stable superstar to start her
career with a win. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to
her chances. EARL OF KENDAL produced two decent efforts before given a
25-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. His wide
barrier position shouldn’t pose a concern as he should use his early gate speed
to get across without using up too much energy. If fit and well, he should pose
a big threat to the top selection.

Race 2
SWEET VENOM is a maiden after eleven outings, but she has
not finished too far off the winner in her recent outings. She showed good
speed in her last start over this distance and stayed on well at the business
end of the race. Jockey Dean Yendall does duty aboard the daughter of Golden
Snake for the first time and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out
of her where it matters most. FANCIED
produced a promising debut effort
over 900m at Mount Gambier. She was given a 27-week break since that outing,
during which time she would have strengthened up. She gets the services of a
3kg claiming apprentice this afternoon and if not in need of this run, she
should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.

Race 3
IRISH PLAYBOY is the best bet on today’s programme. He
produced a decent comeback run over seven furlongs in his last start at
Pakenham. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked.
Apprentice Michael Poy who rode him on debut when finishing second, steps back
into the saddle this afternoon. The son of Fastnet Rock should strip a much
fitter horse today and he will be the one they all have to beat. TOTAL CRAFT is a filly taking on the males. She has not finished too far off the
winner in recent outings. She placed second once and third once from as many
starts on this course. Jockey Dean Yendall has a decent 25%-win strike rate for
this trainer. Should the top selection fluff his lines, she may be the one to
pick up the pieces.
Race 4
WU DARL showed good signs of a form return in her
last start over this course and distance. She ran on strongly to take the lead
that day, fought hard but was outrun in the shadow of the post. She has
finished second once and third once from three starts over this course and
distance. If confirming her recent improvement with Dean Yendall in the saddle,
she should be the one they all have to beat. ROYAL MONSOON’S last three
starts have been fair. The son of Fiorente is making his course debut this
afternoon and in this type of field, if he is suited to the track, he should be
one of the leading contenders for the placings.
Race 5
BROMES got back to winning ways in his last start
over a mile at Ararat. He raced from a mid-field position that day and chased
solidly to get up on the line. Jarrod Fry has ridden him four times for two
wins, a second and a third-place finish from as many starts. From his mid-field
barrier gate, he is likely to race on the speed once again and looks to be the
one they all have to beat.
FERROCERIUM
was a winner of her
last start over this distance at Ararat. She has won once, finished second once
and third once from five attempts over this trip. Jack Hill retains the ride on
the daughter of Stryker and the pair merit healthy respect.
Race 6
DON’T MAKE ME WAIT has very good recent form to his credit. He
finished third in his last start over this distance at Bendigo. Jack Hill has
struck up a good partnership with the son of Foreplay having won twice and
finishing second once from as many starts. If overcoming his wide barrier
position, he should take a power of beating. DIAMOND LUKE won his maiden
in his last start over ten furlongs at Kilmore. The manner in which he ran on
at the finish that day was encouraging. It must be noted that the form of that
race has been franked. He does take a step up in class, but he looks
progressive and should have more to come. It is encouraging that Brad Rawiller
does duty on his first run out the maidens.
Race 7
REARD was an ultra-impressive winner on the
synthetic track at Ballarat last time. He was given a well-deserved break since
that outing, during which time he would have strengthened up. The son of Reward
For Effort takes on stronger this afternoon, but the manner in which he won
last time suggests that he has some class about him. If fit and well, he should
be the one they all have to beat. POPPY’S
ORSE
is a filly taking on the
males. She has finished second in both her post maiden runs. She has won once
and finished third three times from as many starts over this course and
distance. The slight concern is her wide barrier position, but with a bit of
luck in running, she should throw out a challenge to the top choice.
Race 8
SKILLED ARTIST is the value bet on today’s card. She has not
finished too far off the winner since winning on debut. The manner in which she
finished off her last race over 1106m was encouraging. It must be noted that
three horses from that form line have come out and won since. She gets the
services of apprentice Teodore Nugent and the pair should find themselves in
the winner’s enclosure. ZIPSPUR has good consistent form to his credit. He
stayed on well to finish fourth in his last start over this distance at
Pakenham. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. If
repeating his run when winning over this distance at Colac on 1 March, he
should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.
Race 9
This is a
competitive contest and caution is advised. The narrow first selection is ONE PENNY RED who is a winner of his last start. The manner in which he finished off
the race that day was eye-catching. Jack Hill retains the ride this afternoon
and if repeating that outing, he has a good chance of notching up a quick
double. TINY REBEL produced a good post maiden run in his last
start over this distance when finishing third. It must be noted that two horses
from that form line have come out and won since. Apprentice Will Price has won
once, finished second once and third once from as many starts aboard the son of
Rebel Raider. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick
up the pieces.
