International Racing: Mornington – Tuesday 31 March 2020

A small but competitive eight-race programme is scheduled for Mornington on Tuesday morning. Winning Form’s “Jimmy The Rich” previews for us.

Other International Racing tips for Monday and Tuesday:
Will Rogers Downs (Winning Form)
Mackay (Winning Form)
Grafton (Winning Form)

The best bet comes in Race 6 in the form of BELLARINE BEAUTY. She showed class when winning her maiden two runs back and on her peak run today, she has a good chance of notching up her second career victory. The jockey who has the best book of rides is John Allen and he will need to be followed throughout the day.

Best Bet: BELLARINE BEAUTY (Race 6)
Value Bet: BAROSSA KISS (Race 4)

Race 1
ROKARA has produced two good efforts since returning from a 19-week rest. He is a horse that shows tons of speed in his races and may have been in need of his last two starts. He is having his peak run this afternoon and gets the services of capable jockey John Allen. He does have a wide draw to overcome but should use his early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy. FIORENA is a filly taking on the boys. She showed good improvement in her last start over this type of distance at Kilmore. She is having her peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. Should the top rating fluff his lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 2
BUFFALO BILL is having his first run for his new trainer. The son of High Chaparral has some decent recent form to his credit and placed in his only attempt over this course and distance. It must be noted that the form of his last race has been franked. If he has settled into his new surroundings well, he could get off to a winning start for his new conditioner. SOMEBODY STOP ME won his maiden well over 1850m. He does take on a lot stronger this afternoon, but he is lightly raced and looks to have plenty scope about him. It is encouraging that John Allen keeps faith in the ride.

Race 3
SCRAMBLER is an unraced son of Zoustar from the Leon and Troy Corstens stable. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances. Jockey Clayton Douglas and the stable have a 20%-win strike-rate together and cannot be ignored. BETHPAGE was a tad disappointing in her last start after placing in her four efforts prior to that run. That was her second run after a rest and she may have just been a bit flat. However, she is having her peak run this afternoon and should be cherry-ripe. Zac Spain knows her well and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 4
BAROSSA KISS is a filly taking on the males and is today’s value bet. She headed the winner in her last start and fought all the way to the line before being touched off in the closing stages. That was over the seven furlongs and she should enjoy the extra 100m today. She does get her sex allowance and should be the one to cause the upset. ALPHAVILLE is a lightly raced son of Tavistock. He should have finished a lot closer in his last start, but was held up from the 500m to the 200m mark. He gets a set of blinkers fitted for the first time which should help him keep his mind on the job. With a bit of luck in running, he may be the one to pose the biggest threat to the top selection.

Race 5
RECOMPENSA won her maiden well in her last start over seven furlongs at Ballarat. She chased hard before taking the lead at the 100m mark and hit the line strong. She does take a step up in class today, but she is lightly raced and looks to have more in the tank. It is encouraging that jockey Jye McNeil keeps the ride aboard the daughter of Reward For Effort. FROME THE STARS has produced two good runs since shedding her maiden tag. She didn’t have much luck in her last start as she raced six wide around the turn. Michael Walker retains the ride from a good barrier position and she should be the one to pose the biggest threat to the top choice.

Race 6
BELLARINE BEAUTY is the best bet on today’s programme. She won her maiden well in her first run after returning from a 21-week break. She found one too good in her next effort but was far from disgraced. The daughter of Not A Single Doubt is having her peak run this afternoon and should be cherry-ripe. DIAQUIN was a tad disappointing in her last start and was quickly given a 19-week break which she may have been looking for. She has won once and finished second once in four starts over this distance. She runs well in the soft conditions and should be leading contender to contest the fight out for the placings.

Race 7
COMTE was a surprise winner in his last start over this type of distance. He sat two lengths off the pace and when asked for the effort, he quickened past them in the final 100m. He is making his course debut this afternoon and if suited to the track, he has a good chance on notching up his fourth career victory. DESIGN ROUGE’S last two starts have been good. He won his penultimate effort and followed that up with a good run over this distance. He does have a wide draw to contend with this afternoon, but he shows speed and should get across without using up too much energy.

Race 8
DRATINI is much better than his last start suggests. He produced three good runs prior to that race including a win over this course and distance four runs back. His regular pilot Brian Higgins knows him extremely well and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. RED MAESTRO showed good speed when winning his maiden at Wodonga over 1100m. He does take on a lot stronger this afternoon, but the manner in which he won that race suggests that there is a lot more to come from this son of Master Of Design. Daniel Stackhouse has ridden him in the past and the pair should pose a big threat to the top choice.
