The best bet on the day is SHOUT THE BAR who takes part in The Star Australian Oaks. She was ultra-impressive when winning at a nice price in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill Gardens last time. She is likely to have her own way in front once again and may be hard to peg back in the closing stages. TE AKAU SHARK is a quality sort with top consistent form. He races in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes over ten furlongs.
Race 1 (Celebrations Fernhill Mile)
UNTAMED was an impressive winner on debut over 1250m at Canterbury Park. He was given a 12-week break to strengthen up and made a return to racing finishing second in a Group 3 event over seven furlongs. He ran on well last time and on that showing, should enjoy the step up to the mile. The son of Pierro should strip a much fitter horse this afternoon and with Nash Rawiller retaining the ride, he should be tough to beat. POSTCODE produced two decent efforts in feature races before shedding his maiden tag over 1300m last time. He has finished second twice from three starts on this course. Tim Clark who was aboard the son of Vancouver in his first three starts returns to the saddle and the pair merit healthy respect.
Race 2 (The Agency South Pacific Classic)
MIRRA VISION is a three-time winner from just four starts. She made a winning return to racing in her penultimate start after given a 21-week break. She followed that up with a decent fourth-place finish in a Listed event. She is having her peak run this afternoon and should be cherry-ripe. It is encouraging that jockey Kerrin McEvoy is doing duty aboard the daughter of Lonhro. KNICKPOINT’S last three starts have been good. He stayed on well at the business end in the Listed Canberra Guineas over this distance last time. It must be noted that two horses from that formline have come out and won since. Brenton Avdulla has a good 23%-win strike rate when riding for trainer James Cummings. Should the top choice fluff her lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
Race 3 (Provincial Championships Final)
THROUGH THE CRACKS has very good consistent recent form to his name. He ran an absolute cracker in the Qualifiers last time when running on powerfully from stone last. He won his only attempt over today’s distance and has to contend with a wide draw here, but the manner in which he races suggests he should have no issues overcoming the deep barrier. James McDonald does duty and the pair should be mowing down the frontrunners in the run down to the finishing post. ELECTRIC GIRL is a filly taking on the males. She has won her last three starts including one of the Qualifiers at Kembla Grange over this distance. Glen Boss who was aboard the daughter of Declaration Of War in two of those wins steps in the irons today and the pair should pose a big challenge to the top selection.
Race 4 (Heineken 3 Percy Sykes Stakes)
This is a very open contest and caution is advised. The narrow first selection is SWATS THAT from the Leon & Troy Corstens stable. She was ultra-impressive when winning on debut over the minimum trip at Bendigo. She settled mid-field, moved up at the 100m mark and drew off comfortably for the victory. She was very green on that occasion and would have gained from the experience. She does take on stronger, but she looks to have some class about her and should have more to come. AWAY GAME has very good form to her credit winning three from six career starts. She ran an absolute cracker in the Grade 1 Golden Slipper last time when finishing second behind Farnan. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Glen Boss retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.
Race 5 (Arrowfield Three-Year-Old Sprint)
ELEVEN ELEVEN is a model of consistency having won once, finished second twice and third twice from as many starts this season. He ran an absolute cracker in a $2 Million race last time when finishing second behind the talented Alligator Blood. He makes his course debut this afternoon and if suited to the track, he should be the one they all have to beat. It must be noted that jockey Nash Rawiller has a 31%-win strike rate when riding for trainer Gregory Hickman. COSMIC FORCE is much better than his last run in The Galaxy which is a Group 1. His form prior to that was good and he likes this course and distance, with a win and a second-place finish from as many starts. James McDonald knows the son of Deep Field well and the pair should throw out a big challenge to the top selection.
Race 6 (The Star Australian Oaks)
SHOUT THE BAR was given a peach of a ride in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes last time. She took the lead at the 800m mark, fought tenaciously and held on where it matters most. There are some doubts as to whether she will see out the twelve furlongs, but if she has her own way in front, she may just keep all challengers at bay. COLETTE was ultra-impressive when winning a Group 3 event last time. Despite not having much luck that day, she found the front at the 120m mark and drew off for victory. The manner in which she won last time suggests she should have no issues with the extra distance on offer. Glen Boss rides and the pair cannot be ignored.
Race 7 (Schweppes Sydney Cup)
THE CHOSEN ONE was making steady progress in his last start over thirteen furlongs in the Chairman’s Quality Handicap. The last time he ran over today’s distance was when finishing just over five lengths off the winner in the Melbourne Cup last year. He has been given the time to strengthen up since that outing and should have no stamina doubts this afternoon. Kerrin McEvoy rides the son of Savabeel today and the pair are likely to cause an upset. MUSTAJEER has very good form since given a 15-week break. He ran a very good race in the Group 1 H E Tancred Stakes last time when finishing second to Verry Elleegant. He steps back up in distance and if repeating his last outing, he should pose a big threat to the top choice.
Race 8 (Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes)
TE AKAU SHARK is a horse that is loaded with ability and has very good consistent formlines to his credit. He was running on strongly in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes over 1500m last time. He steps back up to the ten furlongs, which should not be an issue as he has finished third over the trip in the past. Opie Bossom is the jockey that gets on best of all with the son of Rip Van Winkle having ridden him to victory on five occasions. The pair should be very hard to beat today. VERRY ELLEEGANT was ultra-impressive when winning the Group 1 H E Tancred Stakes last time. She has a very good record over this distance with three wins and a second-place finish from six attempts. Nash Rawiller rides her for the first time today and the pair should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.
Race 9 (Coolmore Legacy Stakes)
FUNSTAR has very good consistent formlines to her credit. She was not disgraced when finishing fourth behind Shout The Bar in the Vinery Stud Stakes last time. She was a Group 1 winner in her only attempt over this distance. James McDonald has a very good record with the daughter of Adelaide having won three times and finishing second twice. With just 54.5kgs on her back today, she should be the one to side with here. POSITIVE PEACE is a winner of her last five starts, the latest of which was a Group 2 event. She does face her toughest test to date, but she definitely looks to have class about her. The other slight concern is that she has to deal with a wide barrier position, but on current form, the daughter of Stratum cannot be left out.
Race 10 (TAB Sapphire Stakes)
Trainer James Cummings holds a very strong hand in this contest and he could saddle the first two past the post. The first choice is MANICURE with jockey Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle. She ran a very good race in the Group 3 Star Kingdom Stakes last time when challenging all the way to the line. Her record over today’s distance is encouraging with three wins and four second place finishes from nine attempts. She is drawn in barrier two and should be the one they all have to beat. SOOTHING is much better than her last effort in a Group 1. That was her first run after returning from a 19-week break and she should strip a much fitter horse this afternoon. She loves racing on this course having won once and finishing second once in as many starts. Jason Collett rides and the pair merit obvious inclusion.
