Jockeys ride horses

An exciting ten race programme is on the cards for Sunday including The BMW Hong Kong Derby 2020. GOLDEN SIXTY is a nine-time winner from ten starts who doesn’t look like stopping anytime soon. His regular pilot Vincent Ho is riding well at the moment and the pair may be the ones to side with. With regards to the Jockeys Championship, Zac Purton is now only two winners behind Joao Moreira and the chase is definitely heating up.

Best Bet: HIGH
REV (Race 6)

Value Bet: HEZA
BEAUTY (Race 4)

Race 1
SKY SHOW is an unraced son of Kuroshio from the Jimmy Ting stable and Zac Purton does duty from a good draw of four. He has had four barrier trials leading into this race, winning two. Any betting support for him must be taken seriously. EVAN ALMIGHTY produced a promising debut effort over this course and distance. He would have gained from the experience and with Joao Moreira retaining the ride, the pair could be there to pick up the pieces should the top rating fluff his lines.

Race 2
This is a weak Class 4 contest and caution is advised. The narrow first selection is FULL POWER from the Richard Gibson stable. His last run over the nine furlongs at Happy Valley caught the eye. He made up a lot of ground in the home straight before being hampered in the latter stages. If repeating that effort and with a bit of luck in running, he should be right there at the finish. MENAGGIO has shown marked improvement with each outing. The manner in which he rallied late last time was encouraging. Matthew Poon retains the ride and the pair are likely to be mowing down the frontrunners in the closing stages.

Race 3
GOOD LUCK FRIEND produced a promising debut over this course and distance. He raced handy that day and kept on well at the business end before finding no running room at the 100m mark. Zac Purton takes the ride this afternoon and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be the one to side with here. SPONTANEOUS showed good improvement in his last start. Despite receiving a bump at the start that day, he finished off his race well. Blake Shinn knows the son of Unencumbered well and the pair merit healthy respect in this line-up.

Race 4
HEZA BEAUTY is the value bet on the day. He has produced two fair runs to date. He had to overcome a wide draw last time and the manner in which he boxed on in the closing stages was good. Joao Moreira rides for the first time and he may be able to coax that little extra to get him past the winning post in front. CLASSIC POSH showed some good signs of a form return in his last start when dropping back to this class. He should have finished closer that day as he was blocked at the 250m mark. With a bit of luck in running, he could pose a threat to the top selection.

Race 5
PING HAI BRAVO has produced four good runs to date. He didn’t have much luck in the early stages of his last start, but finished off his race well to finish 1.25 lengths off the winner. Joao Moreira who has ridden him twice for two second place finishes, steps back into the saddle this afternoon. From his good draw of four, he looks to be the one they all have to beat. HAPPY ALUMNI’S last three efforts have been good. He was his own worst enemy last time as he didn’t settle in the early stages. If Vincent Ho is able to switch him off early, he may be involved in the finish.

Race 6
HIGH REV is the best bet on today’s card. He was taken back in the early stages of his last start and finished the race off very well. The manner in which he ran on that day suggests that he is looking for this type of distance at this point of his career. Grant van Niekerk retains the ride and the pair will be mowing down the frontrunners in the closing stages. ENRICHMENT finished in front of the top selection last time, but he has only won once and finished unplaced four times from as many outings over the distance. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 7
WELLINGTON is unbeaten from two starts over this course and distance. Despite not getting the best of breaks last time and also pulling, he rallied well to get up and win in this class. He does have a wide draw to contend with today, but gets the services of Zac Purton who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle. VICTORIAM didn’t have things go his own way last time as he pulled from the 1100m and was hampered between the 800m and 700m mark. If repeating his penultimate run, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 8
The big race on the afternoon is The BMW Hong Kong Derby. GOLDEN SIXTY who is a nine time winner from ten starts has a good chance of adding to that tally today. Despite not having the clearest of passages last time, the manner in which he won was impressive. His regular pilot Vincent Ho does duty once again and the pair may be tough to beat. CHAMPION’S WAY finished half a length behind the top selection last time. He moved up well that day, but was caught in the latter stages. As the pair meet on the same weight terms today, he may have to settle for the same result.

Race 9
GUY DRAGON has come well in his last two starts. He was hampered at the 400m mark last time and may have cost himself by hanging in the closing stages. Karis Teetan who has ridden the son of Dark Angel three times for a win and second place finish, will give him all the necessary assistance from a wide draw of twelve. TAKE WHAT YOU NEED has decent recent form to his credit. In this type of field and from a good barrier position, he should be involved in the run down to the wire.

Race 10
HAPPY FUN was just touched off in his last start over this course and distance. Zac Purton knows the son of Darci Brahma well having won once and finished second once from as many outings. The pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. CIRCUIT THREE has won his last three starts well. He does face his toughest test to date, but the manner in which he has disposed his opposition in recent wins suggests that he may be up to the task at hand.
