International Racing: Sha Tin – Sunday 3rd November 2019

 Sha Tin – Sunday 3rd November 2019

10 races are carded at Sha Tin this Sunday 3rd November 2019, with the highlight on the card being the Group 3 SA SA Ladies’ Purse Handicap over 1800m.

Two Class 2 events support the feature and they add to what can be best described as compelling racing on the day. SOUTHERN LEGEND appears to be the best bet in the highlight event on the card – race 7. He will be cherry ripe for the step up in trip and should be very tough to beat. THANKS FOREVER should provide punters with good value in the race preceding that and the son of Duporth finds an improved draw where he will be hoping for an incident free outing, after finding traffic in his last start. See more here.

Race 1 – 06:15

Selections: 4 – 2 – 3 – 11 – 12

KWAI CHUNG ELITE has been knocking on the door since
dropping into this class three starts back and he has since dropped a further
2-points in the ratings. He is still getting going with just the 9-starts so
far and that means he should have the scope for more improvement. Having gone
close over this course and distance, he lands a useful draw to aid his chances
this time and could be a bit of value to get punters going in the first race. ADONIS
beat the top selection in his penultimate outing, when overcoming a tough draw
and he has another wide one to contend with here. He has found some good form
since returning this season and if he manages to find a bit of luck in running,
he’ll be involved in the finish. STARLOT won his last start, when having
his second run this term. He ran on strongly under a commanding ride by Zac
Purton, who retains the ride and this time he lands a very useful draw. The
slight concern is the five-point penalty he received for that latest effort and
the fact that he is yet to win in 9 starts at Sha Tin. With that said, he is in
a good space right now and must be included. LEISURED FEET has been
dropping in the ratings for some time and he has shown improvement off this
lower mark. The fitting of the shadow-roll seems to be having a positive affect
as well and from pole position, he’ll be involved in the finish.
Race 2 – 06:45

Selections: 2 – 6 – 1 – 4 – 12

VICTORY POWER has shown good improvement in his last
two starts, since dropping to this minimum trip. In fact, it seems to be his
best trip, having notched up 4 second place finishes in his 4 starts over the
distance – three of which have come at this course. He gets the services of the
10-pound claiming Chan this time around, which could make him very tough to
catch late on and he gets the nod in this tricky Class 4 event. LUCKY MORE
has his debut here and he has clearly shown enough at home, for Zac Purton to
take the mount first up. It may be worth keeping an eye on the betting boards
to get a gauge on what is expected of him. DUKE WAI finished just
behind the top selection last time out, when taking a bump at the start before
staying on well in the closing stages. That was under the 10-pound claiming
apprentice who is now engaged on the latter and the weight differential should
be a key factor in the outcome of this race. The son of Per Incanto lands the
services of Teetan this time and from gate 5, he should find it relatively easy
to track over to the stand side. With this being his second run after a rest,
he will strip fitter and must be included. FLYING GENIUS gets the
services of Moreira for his debut effort. He’s an attractive jockey booking and
he must be considered. Once again, his followers will be encouraged to keep an
eye on the betting markets to gauge his readiness for this.
Race 3 – 07:15

Selections: 1 – 2 – 10 – 3 – 8

Another tricky race to analyse, greets punters in the 3rd
race on the card, with not a lot of exposed form to go on. FRESH POWER and
MAJESTIC CONQUEROR renew their rivalry, having met in both of their last two
starts and despite the fact the latter finished ahead last time, it is FRESH
POWER
who gets the nod here. He lines up 3-pounds better off at the weights
with the latter and finds another useful draw to begin from. With the blinkers
fitted this time, van Niekerk takes back the mount and he’s the one to beat. MAJESTIC
CONQUEROR
finds another nasty draw to overcome, but having shown plenty of
gate speed to overcome gate 10 last time, the same can be expected here. He has
plenty of scope for improvement, with just the two starts under his belt and
with Moreira up he’ll make his presence felt. GLITTERING WARRIOR
finished behind both of the top two selections last time out, when rallying
wide late, on his return to competitive racing this term. He lines up 3-pounds
better off with the top two on that run and Ho retains. He’ll strip fitter this
time and must be considered. AMAZING PARADISE certainly wasn’t disgraced
on debut, when boxing on well for a sixth-place finish. He gets the blinkers
fitted for his follow up attempt / Sha Tin debut and Teetan retains the ride.
From another useful draw, the son of More Than Ready has plenty of scope and
he’ll be switched off just behind the early speed once again. With the expected
improvement, he is hard to knock and must be included.
Race 4 – 07:45

Selections: 9 – 2 – 3 – 7 – 4

BEAUTY APPLAUSE had solid form to his name
prior to that disappointing last start, when overcoming a wide draw and taking
a hold of the bit over the 1400m. That was three months ago and he will
certainly be looking to find his prior form on his return to the course. He has
a solid record over this course and distance and his chances will be boosted
from gate 1. Moreira knows him well and he retains the ride. He’ll be tough to
beat. ENDEARING has been thereabouts of late and he’ll be looking to
convert that consistent recent form into a win soon. The signs have been there
in his last three starts, since returning this season and from gate 8 he will
be looking to sit around mid-division in the early parts. Callan retains the
ride and his followers can expect to see him boxing on in the closing stages.
THRILLED
showed good improvement when returning to the course after a
6-month absence last time out. He found traffic at the 850m mark and clearly
needed the run, having faded over the final 100m.  That would’ve bought him on nicely and Yeung
retains the ride, from as tough draw this time. He’ll have a decision to make
at the start and if avoiding a tough trip, he’ll be right there at the business
end. SO GLORIOUS showed good improvement when having the cheek pieces
fitted in his penultimate start, notching up two wins on the trot in New
Zealand before making the journey north. The son of So You Think has plenty
more to come, but the concern will be the fact that he hasn’t had a run since
mid-January and could be in desperate need of this. Hewitson takes the mount
and he should be right there, if fit.
Race 5 – 08:15

Selections: 6 – 10 – 4 – 7 – 1

SPRINT FORWARD has only had the 6 starts so far and
he is bound to win in this class soon. He may have gone closer last time, had
he found a smoother passage over the final 200m. Drawn wide in that run, he
looked a threat and found traffic in the closing stages. From another wide
draw, he will be looking to convert that promising course and distance form
into a win and if finding a bit of luck, he has the form to do so. VITAL
SPRING
is another contender who will need to negate a wide draw. He
followed up that recent win in Class 5 company, with a solid effort at this
level last time out and he appears to be in a good place currently. Ho retains
the ride and he’ll know him well. With this being his peak run this term, he
rates a major threat to the top selection. CITY LEGEND is still a maiden
after 19 starts, but he showed some smart improvement last time out, when
having his first start this season. He will strip a lot fitter here and he
lands a much-improved draw, with Purton up. He is a big threat off his current
mark of 52 and must be included. DESTIN will need to overcome gate 12
for his third run after a rest and he brings with him some impeccable recent
form over this course and distance. A consistent son of Duporth, Teetan retains
the ride and he will be looking to repeat that penultimate run, when beating
the third selection here. Despite receiving a 5-pound penalty for that victory,
he is more than capable of featuring prominently and must be included.
Race 6 – 08:50

Selections: 6 – 1 – 2 – 9 – 3

THANKS FOREVER won his first three starts and has
since found things a little tougher, since stepping up to Class 2 level. With
that said, he found traffic at the 350m in his latest start when returning from
a 3-month lay-off and clearly found the 1400m a touch too far in his
penultimate. He will strip fitter this time around, for this step up to the
6-furlongs and he lands a much-improved draw. A progressive son of Duporth,
he’s the one to follow here. CALIFORNIA WHIP has shown plenty of promise
since returning this season. He had to overcome a wide draw when rallying late
to finish 3-lengths behind FAT TURTLE last time and he lines up a full
8-pounds better of at the weights with the latter. From a slightly improved
draw, he has his peak run and Teetan jumps aboard. With the more experienced /
in-form rider in the irons, he is expected to be involved in the finish once
again. The latter won his last start, when beating CALIFORNIA WHIP as mentioned
above. He has shown plenty of promise since his move to the island and he is
certainly best over this trip. Having received a 12-pound penalty for that
impressive latest win over the course and distance, Moreira has opted to stick
with him from another useful draw and he will undoubtedly make his presence
felt. DAN CONTROL wasn’t disgraced last time out, when stepping up to
this class on his return to racing after a 4-month rest. Drawn wide, he started
awkwardly and found traffic late and he will be looking for an incident free
outing this time. Drawn well, Schofield takes the ride and he must be included
with further improvement expected.
Race 7 – 09:20

Selections: 2 – 5 – 1 – 4 – 8

SOUTHERN LEGEND has had a useful prep leading up to
this run, having finished 4th and 5th in both starts this
season. A Group 1 winner over the mile at the end of last season, he’ll now
step up to the 9-furlongs, where he looks distance suited. Sanna retains the
ride having jumped aboard in both outings this term. From a slightly trickier
draw, he will be looking to sit just off the early speed and he’ll be finishing
with winning intent. TIME WARP needs no introduction for his first start
this season. He showed solid improvement when dropping back to this trip in his
latest effort and he will be looking to mount another big challenge from the
front. Drawn wide, that shouldn’t concern his followers too much as he is bound
to take up the early running where he enjoys racing. He has a solid record over
this trip and should be right there at the finish. EXLUTANT is an
ultra-consistent sort with an impressive record leading into this Gr3 event. A
Gr1 winner in his last start, that was over the 2400m trip and he will relish
this drop back to the 1800m here. He is a three-time winner from four attempts
at this level and he brings a solid course and distance record with him. From
pole position, Purton jumps in the irons and if not too in need of the run, he
will be challenging strongly at the business end. DARK DREAM finished
just behind the former last time out and he lines up a whopping 11-pounds
better off at the weights for just a 1.5-lengths defeat. He finished second in
his only attempt at this trip and Moreira retains from another good draw. He
too, may be slightly in need of the run, but must be included on these
favourable conditions alone.
Race 8 – 09:55
Selections: 6 – 11 – 1 – 7 – 13

All of PICKEN’S career efforts have come over this
course and distance, bar one and he has been fairly consistent, landing in the
winners’ box on three occasions and placing on four. He dropped two points in
the ratings last time out and subsequently showed good improvement, first up
after a rest. From an improved draw, Moreira jumps back aboard the son of
Duporth and he’ll be the one they all have to beat. REGENCY BO BO has
returned with plenty of intent in his two runs so far this season and he looks
cherry-ripe for his fourth start since dropping into this class. Having shaved
6-points off his rating in his last five outings, he is starting to look very
competitive off his current mark of 79. Purton retains the ride from pole and
he has a very good chance of improving on that already impressive course and
distance record. GUY DRAGON was drawn wide in his last start, when
returning for his first outing this season. He was only beaten by just over 2.5
lengths in the end, made more impressive by the fact that he ran into a “wall
of horses” in the closing stages and was subsequently ‘not ridden out’. He has
already won twice from 10 starts, both of which have come over this course and
distance and once in this class. From gate 11, he’ll be ridden quietly and his
followers can expect to see him flashing home late. BEAUTY ENERGY has
his peak run back this term and he is going in the right direction, after
showing the expected improvement last time out. Both of his wins in Hong Kong
have come over this course and distance and from a slightly improved draw this
time, he should be involved in the finish.
Race 9 – 10:30

Selections: 8 – 12 – 14 – 2 – 11

BEAUTY DAY was an impressive winner last time out
when overcoming a very wide draw to win from a handy position. He returns to
the same course and distance and lands a much-improved draw this time. Aided by
the 10-pound claiming Chan, he has a very realistic chance of notching up two
wins on the trot. SMILING PRIDE has his first run back after a 3-month
absence from the course and he will be looking to continue where he finished
off last season, having missed by a neck over this course and distance. He
finds another good draw and if racing fresh, he’ll be involved in the finish. BELLAGIO
impressed on his return last time, when overcoming a wide draw and making late
headway for a respectable 5th. He lands another wide draw here, but Moreira
takes the mount and he will strip a lot fitter this time. He still has plenty
of scope to improve, with just the 9 runs under his belt and he rates a threat
if building on that last start. COT CAMPBELL has his third run since
dropping into this class and he has shown a fair amount of improvement with the
blinkers on in his last two outings. He lands an improved draw here and he’ll
be cherry ripe for his peak run after a rest. He has his second attempt at this
trip, but he looks distance suited and with van Niekerk in the irons, he looks
a major contender.
Race 10 – 11:05
Selections: 5 – 6 – 9 – 1 – 10

STAR PERFORMANCE has had a promising start to his
Hong Kong career and he looks well set up to double his win tally here. He
lands another useful draw and Moreira retains, having ridden him when finishing
3rd in both of his last two starts. His penultimate run was over
this course and distance, when returning for his first start this season and
with the expected improvement, he’s the winner here. DANCES WITH DRAGON
has been consistent off his mark of 83 and after his promising last start at
Happy Valley, he deserves his 3-point penalty. That was when returning from
just under a 6-month absence and he’ll strip a lot fitter for this step up to
the 9-furlongs, where he has gone close before. Drawn well, he must go in. HAPPY
FUN
has been in ultra-consistent form and he now rises into Class 2 company
and steps up in trip, for his 9th start here. From gate 2, he will
be looking to find the early lead and with the 10-pound claimer up, he could be
tough to collar late. HEZTHEWONFORUS finds an improved draw for his
third run after a rest, as he steps up to the 9-furlongs where he has gone
close before. With just the 11 career runs to his name, 10 have been here in
Hong Kong and he must have scope to improve, coupled with this being his peak
run. He should be a major player in the closing stages.
