Race 4

HARPO MARX is seldom far off the action and was making good late progress to finish a neck second in his last start over 1900M, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to his liking. He has his peak run after returning from a 25 week break and from his handy draw five, he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card. KIPPAX has finished second in his last two outings, the latest over ten furlongs, just a length and a half behind the winner. He jumps from gate seven and looks to the immediate danger to the top choice. PERSIAN FRONT had made steady improvement in his last three runs, culminating with his maiden win last time out over 1900M by a head. He went from jump to wire that day and whilst taking on stronger today, he retains the services of ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham, which is a plus.

Race 5

STOLTZ made solid improvement when finishing second in his penultimate outing over five furlongs when returning from a 27-week absence, just failing by a short-head that day and then going on to win next time out over five furlongs on this track, just under a length off the winner. He finished strongly in that event and is likely to be dropped out of the race in the early stages from his wideish draw nine, but should be picking off the frontrunner over the closing stages of the contest. NELSPRUIT won by one and a half lengths over 1100M at this venue on debut and could be almost anything. He drew away from the opposition from the 150M mark that day and should have no issue taking the step up in trip here. His draw four will do him no harm. YANGARRA ROSE is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys. She followed up her penultimate run victory by a head over five furlongs at this track with a second place finish over the six furlongs next time out, one length adrift of the victor, this despite coming three wide into the straight. She has an even better draw two and should give the males a good run for their money.

Race 6

SHAMANI is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she has only had the two runs to date, finishing third on debut over seven furlongs and then showing the expected improvement to win by three lengths over this c&d at the second time of asking. The victory was made all that much more encouraging by the fact that she came the widest of them all into the home straight. She will have to negotiate a wide draw ten, but she clearly has some ability. AYTOBE has finished third in his last three outings over a variety of different distances since returning from a 21 week rest, the latest being over 1300M where he was three lengths adrift of the victor. He battled all the way down to the wire that day and from pole position he may well be looking for this greater test of stamina. AESOP’S FABLE on the other hand will have to overcome a wide gate eleven. She is another 4yr old filly who stayed on well when ending up in fourth place last time out over this c&d, just over two lengths behind the winner. She will have Keagan Latham in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle and should be doing her best work late.

Race 7

MISS DIOR is a 4yr old filly taking on boys, but she has her hat-trick run here after winning her last two outings over this trip, the latest by a neck. Both of those wins have come after she returned from a lengthy 43 weeks off the track and the break was clearly just what she needed. From her gate three, the trio of victories is very much on the cards. Although COCO CUBER is recorded as having finished sixth last time out over six furlongs, he was just 2.4L back from the winner, after having to be steadied at the 1000M pole. He is drawn in gate seven and will be having his first run since a 14-week break, but he did finish fourth in his only barrier trial to prove his well-being. He has his first run for his new trainer and if fully settled into his new surroundings, she should be involved in the finish. MR POLAR is drawn one outside the latter and showed marked improvement to win his last start over this trip by just over a length. He will have 3kg taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice to aid his cause. He should be included in all bets.
