Race 4.

With the two late scratchings in this the first leg of the Jackpot, we now have six unraced runners in the field of ten. As is always the case in these types of fields, a close eye should be paid to the betting markets to get some indication as to how the connection feel about their chances of winning first time out. Of the raced entrants, STOLTZ may prove to be the best. He attracted plenty of betting support when showing the expected improvement second time out when finishing second over five furlongs, beaten just a short-head when returning from a 27-week break and three barrier trials. He will have to negotiate a wide gate nine, bur nevertheless looks to be the one to side with here. ZOULY is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys. She returns from a 23-week break, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials, finishing third in the latest. She also improved in her second outing when ending up in second place over 1500M, just over a length behind the winner. She drops in distance but did finish fourth when making her debut over five furlongs, so this should not be a problem. She has her first run for her new trainer and if fully settled into her new surroundings, she should test the top choice. BOOMKO is another 3yr old filly. She has only had the two starts to date and didn’t show too much improvement in her second outing. She returns from a 24-week rest, but has had the two barrier trials, winning the latest. She is another who has her first outing for her new conditioner and could do better as a result.

Race 5.

EDMOND had his consistency rewarded with his maiden victory by just under a length last time out over 1300M. He made good late progress that day and has his peak run here after returning from a 19 week break. He takes on stronger today, but he gets cheek pieces fitted for the first time and from gate five, he could prove to be up to the task on hand and complete his double. TITANIUM POWER won by one and a half lengths when making his debut over 1100M, despite being hampered at the 900M mark. On that effort, he should appreciate the extra ground on offer here. He will jump from gate seven and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick. MOLLYCODDLE is a 3yr old filly taking on males. She has made steady improvement in her last three runs, culminating with her maiden victory last time out over 1300M. She is drawn one outside the latter, but she won going away in that last contest and should have little issue with the slight step up in trip.

Race 6.

WICKED WENCH is a 5yr old mare taking on boys. She followed up her penultimate run victory over 1100M with a second place finish over six furlongs next time out, beaten just under a length. She took the lead as the field entered the home straight that day and was only run out of it very late. She faces a wideish draw nine, but she should give the males a good run for their money and is taken to be the value bet on the day’s program. AGAINST THE TIDE jumped awkwardly, but recovered well to win his last start when stepping up in trip to seven furlongs. He was only beaten a short-head in his penultimate outing over six furlongs, so should have little issue with the drop in distance today. He gets gate seven and should be right up there when they hit the line. SAPPHIRES SON drops in distance after finishing second in his last two runs over nine furlongs and a mile respectively. He had to be held up in the early stages in his latest start and should have finished closer to the winner as a result. He has cracked pole position and the shorter trip may be just what he is looking for.

Race 7.

Three 4yr old fillies can fight out the finish to this race and secure the trifecta, but today’s best bet, BUBA, is the clear top selection. She is a versatile sort who has been tried over a number of different distances, but did finish second in her last start over this trip, 0.8L behind the winner. She finished strongly that day and has her peak outing here after returning from a 26 week break. She is drawn out in gate ten, but is likely to be dropped out of it early and should be picking off the front runners over the closing stages. MY DESIRE won her last outing over 1500M by half a length. She is drawn one outside the former, but she does possess early gate speed which she is sure to use to move across without expending too much energy. She looks the immediate threat to the top pick. SEGRILL steps up in trip after finishing fifth in her latest start over 1300M, just over two lengths adrift of the victor. She did however finish third in her penultimate outing over this mile journey, so the extra ground on offer today should not present a problem.
