International Racing: Thursday 30 April 2020 – Wyong

International Racing: Wednesday 29 April 2020 – Ascot

Seven races at Wyong present a few decent opportunities for punters, this Thursday 30th April. THE FIRST RING could kick things off on a positive note when he lines up in the first race. With very little opposition to fear, he has the credentials to prevail this time. MAUI GIRL appears to be the value bet on the card. She goes to post in the sixth race, on the back of two good trials and should have a nice chance to convert that into a win. See more here.

Race 1 – 04:55 –
1600m – Maiden Handicap
Selections:  2 – 3 – 8 – 4 – 5
THE FIRST RING
showed good improvement in just his second start last time out, when stepping
up to the 1400m. He was run down late after being driven to the lead, but with
scope for improvement he should get the job done this time around. The mile
should suit, and he should get things off to winning ways in the opener. HIGHBURY has only had the one start
since returning from a rest and despite finishing over 7-lengths behind the
victor, he gave a useful account of himself to finish 2nd. The son
of I Am Invincible will strip fitter for his return to the same course and
distance and must be included for minor money. GLORAYA appears to be the best of the rest and she could find the
places on her best form.
Race 2 – 05:35 –
1350m – Maiden Plate
Selections: 3 – 1 – 7
– 2 – 9
LANDO BAY did
well to find the places in his comeback run last time out, after a lengthy
lay-off. Despite the 3-year old son of Sebring dispelling fitness doubts on
that occasion, he should strip much fitter 2nd up and it is hard to
imagine him not leaving the maidens this time around. DAKSHA is progressing nicely since returning from his rest in early
March and with this being his peak run back, he will go very close to winning
if building on that latest effort. He finds a respectable draw and the son of
Deep Field should give his followers a big run for their money. GAUCHE has her debut after three useful
trials and she will be looking to kick off her career on a positive note here.
She might not be ready to win first up but must be included for minor money.
Race 3 – 06:10 –
1100m – Maiden Handicap
Selections: 9 – 5 – 8
– 1 – 3
KISS AND TELL was
very unlucky not to win last time out when returning to racing after a long
absence. The 4-year old daughter of Zoustar led early and fought on strongly at
the business end but was just touched off on the line and she will be looking
to go one better this time. MRS MAISEL
is a 2-year old Hitchinbrook filly having her 4th career outing
here. She ran on strongly to finish second in her latest effort when returning
for her first run this year and with Tom Sherry retaining the ride, she looks
the biggest threat to the top selection. SEGOSHA
is a 3-year old daughter of Exceed And Excel having her debut here, but she has
shown plenty of ability in her trials so far. Jeff Penza takes the mount first
up and she must be included.
Race 4 – 06:45 –
1600m – Class 1 Handicap
Selections: 2 – 3 – 1
– 4 – 7
REINVEST was an
eye-catching winner on debut over slightly shorter and he is going to relish
stepping up to the mile for his follow up effort. The son of Redoute’s Choice
will have plenty more to come and if building on that debut, with Lee Magorrian
retaining the ride, he should be tough to overhaul despite the rise in class. STOCKMAN won last time out, when
returning for his first run this year. That was just his 3rd career
outing and it can be considered an extraordinary performance considering the
way he flew home late. He should strip a lot fitter for this follow up attempt
and rise in class, but the son of Tavistock should have scope for more and he
must be included. MUBARIZ and BUTCH’N’BUGS both have the credentials
to fight out the finish and must be included in wider perms.
Race 5 – 07:25 –
1350m – Class 2 Handicap
Selections: 4 – 1 – 3
– 2 – 6
MAUI GIRL drops
back in trip for her return to racing after two very encouraging trials of
late. She won on debut over 1400m so looks well suited to the 1350m and she
still has plenty of scope. The daughter of Lope De Vega drops in class after
following up that eye-catching Listed effort in her penultimate start with a
useful performance at Group 2 level in her latest outing. If not too in need of
the run, she should have the class to prevail here. CAMP RIFLE has improved with every run this year and he will be
looking to build on that good latest effort when battling on bravely for 2nd
over the mile. From another perfect draw, he gets the services of Jeff
Penza and should give a very good account of himself over a course and distance
where he won his only attempt. SKY
DIAMONDS
has been knocking on the door in both of her starts this year. She
is yet to miss the first three in three attempts over this trip, so she will
relish the slight step up in distance here and must be included.
Race 6 – 08:05 –
1100m – BM64 Handicap
Selections: 2 – 9 – 8
– 11 – 12
KEY TO GLORY was
impressive in that recent barrier trial and that outing would’ve brought him on
nicely for his first run back after a rest. He has won first up before and with
Tom Sherry retaining the ride, he should be one of the leading contenders in a
wide-open race. SALLY’S DAY takes on
the boys after a smart trial recently. She has her first run back after a
lengthy absence and the speedy daughter of More Than Ready will be looking to
build on that form towards the end of last year where she featured prominently
in her last two starts. The trip should suit, and she has also won first up
before. MOCCASIN MISS has been
knocking on the door in her last few starts, and she will be looking to convert
that into a win soon. Jeff Penza takes the mount and if building on her
penultimate run over this course and distance in heavy going, she will go right
into contention here.
Race 7 – 08:40 –
1300m – BM64 Handicap
Selections: 3 – 6 – 1
– 2 – 10

SALSA MAN has
been in solid form in his last three starts, culminating in an eye-catching
third last time out when making up lots of ground to finish third. He has only
missed the first three places once from his 8 attempts over this course and
distance, picking up a win along the way and with Jeff Penza taking the mount, he
should be worth following in the final race. DAWN TOO GOOD won his last start to win his maiden at the 6th
time of asking. He seems to enjoy racing up with the speed and will be looking
to take advantage of a plum draw for his first attempt over the extra ground.
Rory Hutchings retains the ride and they must be included here. HOLY REIGN has his first run back after
two decent trials and with his record of two wins and two seconds from his four
attempts over this trip, he must rate a threat. ANUBIS would’ve needed his last start when returning from a rest
and he will be looking to build on that effort 2nd up. He was just
off the leaders at the 400m but couldn’t make up ground to finish off his
effort and if stripping fitter this time, he should make his presence felt.
