International Racing: Wangaratta – Thursday 16 April 2020

International Racing: Happy Valley – Wednesday 15 April 2020

A nine-race programme is scheduled for Wangaratta on Thursday. It is a very competitive card, but there is some nice value in a few races and money can be made. The best bet comes in Race 2 in the form of OLD HEAD who produced a promising debut effort when finishing runner-up. He should be hard to beat with the natural improvement that is expected.

Race 1
ON THE PROGRAM produced a promising
debut effort when finishing third on debut at Bendigo. He would have come on
with the experience under his belt and should make the natural improvement this
afternoon. Apprentice Thomas Stockdale does duty and the pair should find
themselves in the winner’s enclosure.
BARANGAREADY produced a fair debut
over the minimum trip at Bendigo. She has been given a 17-week break since,
during which time she would have strengthened up. Michael Dee rides the
daughter of More Than Ready on her return and if fit and well, she should be
the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top choice.

Race 2

OLD HEAD produced an eye-catching debut effort when finishing
runner-up at Pakenham over six furlongs. He was unlucky not to have won that
day as he was held up for a run until the 250m mark and only got going late. It
must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He would have come
on from the run and with the natural progression that is expected, he should be
the one they all have to beat.
PERSAN showed good improvement in his last start before
given a 24-week break. He is having his first run for his new conditioner and
if settled into his new surroundings, he may be the one to pose the biggest
threat to the top selection.

Race 3

There is some nice
value about IT’S TRUMPS. He showed good improvement in his last
start over a mile at Swan Hill. He was running on strongly at the finish that
day. From his mid-field draw, he is likely to adopt the same tactics and will
be mowing down the frontrunners in the run down to the wire. It is encouraging
that jockey Jarrod Fry retains the ride aboard the son of Americain. BAROSSA KISS is a filly taking on the males and has not finished too far behind the
winner in recent outings. She stayed on well in her last start over seven
furlongs at Pakenham. It must be noted that the form of that race has been
franked. She will enjoy the rise in distance today and merits healthy respect.

Race 4

MONSTERS INC is an unraced son of Animal Kingdom from the
Kane Harris stable with Daniel Stackhouse in the irons. He hasn’t had a barrier
trial coming into this race, but he doesn’t need to be a stable superstar to
win in this type of field. The betting market will be the best guide with
regards to his chances. BOMBERZ
TOYZ
produced a promising debut
effort when finishing third over a similar distance at Wodonga. He fought hard
all the way to the finishing post, but was no match for the winner. It must be
noted that the form of that race has been franked. With the natural improvement
that is expected, he should be right there in the run down to the wire.

Race 5

OLYMPIC POWER produced a very good debut effort over the
minimum distance at Ballarat. He sat three lengths off the pace and chased
solidly all the way down to the wire. He would have come on from the experience
and should enjoy the extra distance on offer today. With the natural
progression that is expected, he should be the one to side with here. MOTAKHAYYEL didn’t show much on his debut effort at Morphettville, but has been given
32 weeks to strengthen up. He has had a decent barrier trial coming into this
race and should be fit and well for his return. Should the top selection fluff
his lines, he may be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top
choice.

Race 6

MOLLY’S WANTED’S last start was very good when she finished
just under a length behind the winner. She was running on strongly at the
finish over six furlongs that day. She gets the services of 2kg claiming
apprentice Laura Lafferty today and should be the one they all have to beat. STATEMENT OF FAITH has not finished too far off the winner in
recent performances. She should have finished much closer in her last start,
but she was held up from the 300m to the 150m mark. John Allen does duty from a
positive draw this afternoon and with a bit of luck in running, she should be
right there in the run down to the finishing post.

Race 7

This is a
competitive contest and caution is advised. The narrow first selection is MISS HARRIETTE from the Shane Nichols yard. Her last two starts over a mile have been
fair. The manner in which she raced in those two outings suggest that she will
enjoy the step up to the ten furlongs this afternoon. Zac Spain does duty
aboard the daughter of Choisir and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s
enclosure. SANCTUAIRE was rewarded for consistency when winning
her last start over this distance at Ballarat. It must be noted that the form
of that race has been franked. Jake Noonan retains the ride this afternoon and
the pair should be right there to throw out the biggest challenge to the top
choice.

Race 8

COURT DEEP is lightly raced and has very good form to
his credit. He raced from a handy position in his last start and stayed on well
at the business end. John Allen who was aboard him when he won his maiden race
in his penultimate start returns to the saddle and the pair should be hard to
get past in the run down to the finishing post. VLADIVOSTOCK has not
finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He set the pace over a
similar distance last time, but was caught on the line. He does have a wide
draw to contend with, but he is likely to use his early gate speed to get
across without using up too much energy. Should the top selection fluff his lines,
he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

Race 9

SUBURBIA has very good consistent formlines to his
credit. He raced three wide in his last start, moved up well, but was collared
in the late stages. Apprentice Jaden Lloyd retains the ride this afternoon and
with a bit of luck in running, the pair may be hard to peg back in the closing
stages. NOT ALONE cast a shoe when racing in Listed company
last time. He shed his maiden tag in his penultimate start over 1300m. The son
of Fighting Sun takes a drop-in class this afternoon and tries the distance for
the first time. If seeing out the extra trip on offer, he may be the one to
throw out the biggest challenge to the top choice.
