International Racing: Wednesday 13 May 2020 – Warwick Farm

Kicking off the programme with an interesting looking 2-year old contest, we move on to some competitive handicap racing for older horses. With the best bet on the card coming in the form of PETRONIUS in race 6, he will be looking to go one better this time after an encouraging comeback run last time out. See more about his chances and more here.

Race 1 – 04:45 –
1400m – 2-YO Handicap
Selections: 3 – 1 – 2
– 4 – 6
ACHIEVER is a
well-bred son of Pride of Dubai who steps out for his third career start here.
he was very green in that latest effort over the 1200m and the signs indicate
that he will relish the extra 200m. Hugh Bowman jumps aboard and with the
improvement to come, he should be one of the leading contenders here. HINCHBEAST gave a good account of
himself last time out, when first up after a rest. The son of Hinchinbrook
tries this trip and on pedigree he should relish the extra. Nash Rawiller has
ridden him before and he reclaims the ride from Hugh Bowman. With both top
jockeys effectively swapping rides, it should be a close contest.
Race 2 – 05:25 –
1600m – 4YO & Up BM70 Handicap
Selections: 5 – 2 – 8
– 3 – 4
BIG BAD BRUCE
enjoyed the extra ground last time out, when stepping up from 1400m to 1550m in
this class. From another useful draw, the 1,5kg claimer retains the ride and
the son of Not A Single Doubt looks set for a big performance here. REGAL STAGE has shown up well since
that victorious return after a rest three runs back. He drops in class after
that latest Class 4 attempt and the step up in trip should suit the son of
Redoute’s Choice. Drawn well, he must be included.
Race 3 – 06:00 –
1000m – 3YO & Up BM70 Handicap
Selections: 4 – 2 – 6
– 3 – 8
SAN MARCO was an
impressive winner when returning after a rest recently. He produced a
barnstorming finish over the reduced trip and the son of Smart Missile could
very easily follow up with another big performance over a trip where has built
up a very smart record. JOEY’S DESTINY
has trialled well, and he looks set for a promising return. He too has a very
respectable record over this trip and with a decent record first up, deserves
plenty of respect in this class.
Race 4 – 06:35 –
2110m – 3YO BM70 Handicap
Selections: 6 – 4 – 3
– 5 – 10
The fourth race marks the start of the Jackpot and TAMPERING should represent well. He
arrives on the back of a hat-trick of wins and now takes a rise in distance in
his attempt to maintain his winning streak. A 3-year old son of Pendragon and
with just 7 runs under the belt, he has plenty of scope for more. LOVES TO ROCK drops slightly in class
after a decent effort last time out. That was when following up after an
eye-catching win over this trip in his penultimate start. With the 1,5kg
claimer up, he should go right into contention once again.
Race 5 – 07:10 –
1300m – 3YO BM66 Handicap
Selections: 4 – 2 – 1
– 8 – 5
FARETTI has his
comeback run after last appearing in a competitive race back in November. The
son of I Am Invincible arrived on the back of three good trials in preparation
for his return and the signs indicate that he will be more than ready for this.
With just 4 runs to his name, he has plenty of scope and looks a big threat in
an open race. BATTLEGROUND didn’t
quite shape in Group 3 company last time out and he can certainly be excused
for that run, on vet’s advice. He was a smart maiden winner in his penultimate
start and on his run prior to that, over this course and distance, he must be
included with scope for plenty more.
Race 6 – 07:45 –
1400m – 3YO & Up BM70 Handicap
Selections: 8 – 3 – 6
– 9 – 7
PETRONIUS is
another son of top Australian sire, Redoute’s Choice. He looked a winner in
that comeback run recently but was grabbed late to finish just 0,2-lengths off
the winner. With just 6 starts to his name, he has plenty of scope for further
progression and it is worth noting that he picked up his maiden win when 2nd
up after a rest. Under similar circumstances here, he should relish the extra
ground and just about win this. BIGBOYROY
has looked sharp in both of his recent trials and he will be looking to continue
that solid form he showed towards the back end of his last campaign, when
having his comeback run here. The Chris Waller inmate has a solid first and
second up record and he should be the biggest threat to the top one.
Race 7 – 08:20 –
1200m – 3YO & up F&M BM70 Handicap
Selections: 9 – 5 –
10 – 11 – 4
SPECIAL SNAP has
had two comeback runs this year and the daughter of Shooting To Win has shown
up well in both. She has her peak run now and in this sort of company she
should be able to overhaul this field at the business end. BOUND TO WIN finished 2,5-lengths back last time out, when having
her course debut but the manner in which she made up ground after a slow start
is worth noting. The daughter of Sebring has won twice from four attempts over
this trip and despite the wide draw, she will be finishing strongly once again.
