Race 4.

RUNNING FOUR BUB missed out on her hat-trick last time out when finishing fourth over 1300M, 3.3L behind the winner, that after two successive wins over the same distance. She overraced that day and then came wide into the straight, so can perhaps be forgiven that effort. She jumps from gate six and will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today. On the other hand, CATHAY will attempt to complete her hat-trick after winning her last two runs over six furlongs and 1100M respectively. She returns from a 15 week rest, but has put in two encouraging barrier trials to prove her well-being. She has a kinder draw two and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice. DESIGNER MAID was slightly disappointing when stepping up to the 1300M last time out, finishing seventh, six lengths off the winner, but she overraced badly on that occasion and that effort is best ignored. A repeat of her penultimate run when second over this trip, one length behind the victor would see her right up there in the firing line. She has cracked pole position and will be partnered by ex-SA jockey Glyn Schofield.

Race 5.

Two 4yr old fillies and a 5yr old mare could dominate the finish of this race and complete the trifecta, but the top pick goes to today’s best bet, ASPECT RATIO. She is seldom far off the action and although fifth in her last outing over this mile journey in heavy going, she was just over a length behind the winner. The form of that race has been franked to boost her formline. With the late scratching, she now comes in to gate nine and will have ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle. ONE POUND missed out on her trio of wins when finishing third last time out over this trip, a half length adrift of the winner. She attempted to go from jump to wire that day and was only reeled in very late. She is drawn one inside the top pick and will have 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice. BENFICA MAID was bumped shortly after the start in her latest outing over a mile, but recovered well to make good late progress before ending up in seventh place, just over four lengths behind the winner. She jumps from draw six and should be involved in the finish.

Race 6.

In a race where a number of her biggest rivals are drawn out very wide, HIBISCUS LADY is taken to be the value bet on today’s card. She is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she has pulled pole position which she is sure to put to good use. She showed solid improvement to win her last start over five furlongs by a length, when returning from a 13 week rest. The break was clearly what she needed and she could prove good enough to complete her double in this line-up. Two 4yr old fillies could chase her home. LONGBOTTOM returns from a 19 week rest and has finished third in both of her barrier trials to prove her fitness. A repeat of her penultimate effort when finishing third over this five furlong sprint, 1.7L behind the winner would see her right up there in the dash down to the line. She has a handy gate four to aid her cause.  EMILETTE has consistent formlines to her credit and stayed on well to finish in fourth place last time out over five furlongs, less than a length off the victor. She has a wideish draw nine to negotiate, but should nevertheless be included in all bets.

Race 7.

ANCHOIS has shown steady improvement in his last three runs, finishing second in his latest outing over five furlongs, only a length behind the winner. He has his peak run here and did attract plenty of betting support for that last outing. If he has continued down that same path and from draw six, he may be the one to side with today. BIG BAD BRUCE showed marked improvement when finishing fifth in his last start over six furlongs, just over a length and a half behind the winner, when returning from a 21 week absence. He finished well that day and a repeat of that effort would see him right up there when they hit the line. His draw two is a plus.  PROFESSOR MARX jumped awkwardly before ending up in fourth place last time out over six furlongs, just under a length adrift of the winner. He will have to overcome draw eleven, but on the plus side, he will have 3kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice. WILD CHAP has a much kinder draw five and tried to go from jump to finishing post before ending up in fifth place last time over 1100M, 3.7L off the victor. He steps up in distance today, but did win over 1350m at this track three runs back, so this should not be an issue.
