TOWNSHIP MELODY disappointed when perhaps needing her comeback effort over this c & d recently but she will strip fitter today. She finished just over one length adrift in a ‘blanket’ affair that day and of course had promising prior form which included three consecutive seconds. She was defeated by the useful Fresnaye in her penultimate outing and that rival boosted the form when finishing a gane 3rd in the Guineas two weeks ago.

LOVE DOVE was always going to relish racing beyond sprints on her pedigree and she obliged with a career best performance over this distance a fortnight ago. She fought back gamely when beaten a neck into 2nd after setting the pace and should raise her game in this slightly stronger line-up. The chestnut daughter of What A Winter will enjoy the switch to this galloping circuit and top visiting jockey Delpech rides from a plum draw.

Jockey: A Delpech- Trainer: D Kannemeyer

The unbeaten four-year old LAST WINTER clearly has issues but he has continued to improve with each of his four efforts to date. He easily accounted for Winter Series competitor OLLIVANDER (8kgs worse off) in his comeback attempt over a mile on local debut in mid-October and undoubtedly has more to offer. The Kannemeyer inmate will strip fitter and he should relish this distance on pedigree. He appears ready for this steep rise in class and gets the nod.

Race 8: NIGHTINGALE(1)
Jockey: A Delpech – Trainer: C Bass-Robinson

The classy mare NIGHTINGALE also enjoyed success during the KZN winter and she would have come on from her seasonal debut three weeks ago. She beat a few of today’s rivals at the highest level over a mile earlier this year and is equally effective over this extra furlong. The daughter of Silvano should give a great account of herself.

The pace should be hot in this much anticipated Grade 1 mile contest for three-year olds where a true result is expected. The red-hot Snaith/Fayd’Herbe combination already claimed the fillies equivalent and the pair have an outstanding chance of tasting victory with the aptly named Twice Over gelding, DO IT AGAIN. This bay has produced three outstanding performances to date and he probably should have finished closer but for traffic issues in a feature over this trip four weeks ago. That was his first career defeat and the Snaith inmate will certainly strip fitter. He should love this longer run-in and is clearly worth following.
