Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 3: NABISCO(8) – TOP BET
Jockey: Neisius K – Trainer: Snaith J S

The expensive purchase NABISCO made the expected improvement when he stayed on strongly for 4th over this c & d, second time out. He attracted strong outside market support that day, suggesting that he is showing his conditioner good work back home. The well-related son of Western Winter was returning from a nine week break and will be fitter this time around. He should continue to improve with racing and merits respect in this field.

Race 5: CAPE REBEL(9)
Jockey: Byleveld M – Trainer: Marshall V H

The three-year old CAPE REBEL has shown early signs that he could be ‘something special’ and he stays really well. The son of Rebel King set the pace over ten furlongs last time and despite pulling hard with blinkers fitted, he fought off older rivals courageously to win his maiden by a head at just the third time of asking. The Vaughan Marshall inmate is clearly underrated by the handicapper and could take full advantage of that, on his handicap debut. He once again faces older rivals but this time without blinkers and with just 52.5kgs on his back. He looks ready to make the rise in class and is an exciting young prospect.

Race 6: MUSCATT(1)
Jockey: Fayd’Herbe B – Trainer: Snaith J S

There are some really fast types in this small, but competitive sprint handicap. That likely blisteri- ng pace is sure to suit the top weight, MUSCATT who produced a strange but impressive last c & d performance at a similar level in heavy underfoot conditions. The Victory Moon chestnut showed lots of early speed but dropped away at the two-furlong mark, before finishing strongly again for a smart 2nd behind a fast improving sort. The indications are that he could prefer an extra furlong but the fast pace could play right into his hands. He runs very well for Fayd’Herbe and is a huge contender.

Race 7: VICTORIA LAVELLE(6)
Jockey: Fayd’Herbe B – Trainer: Snaith J S

There are some smart three-year olds on display in this novice contest and a thrilling finish is on the cards. VICTORIA LAVELLE changed her tactics to good effect when she challenged strongly and only went down three parts of a length into 2nd at handicap level, with a big mass over six furlongs, four weeks ago. She is equally effective over today’s minimum distance and only tired late behind Petala in a feature. three runs back. Interestingly, she was just over a length and a half adrift of today’s likely favourite VARUMBA in that very same contest. The top selection meets her conqueror on similar weight terms but things could map out differently over the 5 furlongs.

VALUE BET FOR TODAY:

Race 2: TAFFETY TART(17)
Jockey: V.Niekerk G – Trainer: Bass M W

There are numerous first timers in this big field and the betting market will be a good indicator. Some raced runners have shown form though and could make their experience count. The Mike Bass trained daughter of Trippi, TAFFETY TART drifted alarmingly in the betting market on her c & d debut, two weeks ago but she was running on late when beaten just under three lengths at the line. She now faces her own age group for the first time and should make natural improvement from another favourable draw.
