Magic Tips Best Bets

Top Bet
Race 3: MOONLIGHT ‘N ROSES(3)
Jockey: Grant VAN NIEKERK – Trainer: Mike BASS

The lightly raced daughter of Captain Al, MOONLIGHT ‘N ROSES has put her one shocking effort firmly behind her and she is fast developing into a top quality sort. She quickened impressively to win her last outing over this c & d and is ready for this step-up in grade, despite the resultant nine pound penalty. The Mike Bass inmate has huge room for further progress and she could take a power of beating. The likely sedate gallop could play right into her hands.

Race 4: LOVELY RITA(3)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE – Trainer: Glen KOTZEN

In stark contrast to the previous event, this fillies and mares handicap will have a decent pace and a true result is expected. LOVELY RITA has smart form over the mile and she bounced back to best with a strong finish, only to be denied victory by a short head over this c & d, three weeks ago. That effort earned her a two-pound penalty but she is still improving and should go close in this line-up. The likely solid gallop and long run-in will suit her.

Race 5: CAVALLINO(5)
Jockey: Aldo DOMEYER – Trainer: Mike BASS

This is another competitive handicap, but once again the pace should be hot. The Mike Bass charge CAVALLINO but once again the pace should be hot. The Mike Bass charge CAVALLINO has come back to form since going beyond sprints. He worked hard for his maiden victory over this c & d in his penultimate start but followed that up with a classy performance in stronger company on his handicap debut, three weeks ago. The son of Greys Inn challenged a classy sort strongly and went down a head at the line. That effort earned him a two-pound penalty, but the three-year-old gelding clearly has more to offer and he drops in class now.

Race 8: ROCKINGONTHEMOON(1)

Jockey: Grant VAN NIEKERK – Trainer: Mike BASS

This is a competitive maiden event to end the day’s proceedings and an exciting finish is on the cards. ROCKINGONTHEMOON has improved with each of her three runs to date and she ran on smartly for 2nd over this c & d, three weeks ago. She was exactly one and a half lengths in front of ALL MINE but has cracked the best draw and has good scope for improvement. The daughter of Rock Of Rochelle merits healthy respect.

VALUE BET FOR TODAY:

Race 6: REAL PRINCESS(2)
Jockey: Grant BEHR – Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

There are some quality sorts in this listed contest and the unusual distance makes for an intriguing outcome. REAL PRINCESS is in good form and her conditioner has probably worked out that sprinting is her forte’. The daughter of Trippi has recovered from her KZN winter season exploits and she produced two quality local runs this campaign. The four-year-old chestnut filly ran on strongly for a close 3rd in a Grade 2 over the minimum distance recently and she now has her peak run. The extra 100m will suit her perfectly and she should be competitive.
