Gauteng based conditioner Paul Peter saddles the exciting three-year old prospect MAJESTIC MAMBO who is his first runner in this prestigious event and his comments were, “His prep has gone well so far according to plan, thank God. I think there will be a good early pace for the runners to get their positions, I don’t really see a great pace after that. I would say that the only danger would be the short straight of the Greyville racetrack.”
Peter said Majestic Mambo had come out of his second place finish in the Grade 1 Daily News 2000 “very well” and had “actually improved” since then.
There were concerns for the draw (19), however Peter said, “The draw is not so bad for this type of horse, he doesn’t want to be cramped, so I am not too perturbed.”
He added, “We are going in with a lot of confidence. We are really happy so please God he travels down well and everything goes well before the race. He is in with a big shout.”
Jockey Comments:
The Hong Kong bound Callan Murray also has the knack of popping up in the ‘big ones’ and his top quality three-year old Gauteng based entrant Majestic Mambo gives him every chance of a winning send-off. His views and analysis were, “He’s had a fair amount of racing to ensure he is race fit. His last run proved his capability so overall it’s been a solid prep. Between his last run and now he seems to have regained his confidence. He is in great shape and in a good frame of mind. On paper there should be a sedate pace but in saying that we are very often surprised in races like these. I’m hoping to be surprised. I do make White River and Do It Again as my main dangers.
Winning Form – Magic Tips Comment:
This top class Gauteng visitor finally showed off his best with a storming finish for a close 2nd in the Daily News 2000 on local debut recently, half a length ahead of DO IT AGAIN and the pair meet on similar weight terms. The bay colt also has huge scope for progress with an extra furlong expected to suit him perfectly, though the likely sedate tempo will severely hamper his chances as he takes a long time to hit his top stride. Furthermore, the son of Mambo In Seattle could find major traffic issues in this short final straight.
Finally produced his best in Grade 1 last time but likely slow pace and poor draw are major concerns.
