CHELTENHAM

Race 3 Schloer Chase (Grade 2)

No1 NUBE NEGRA
Trainer: Dan Skelton – Jockey: Harry Skelton

Former Champion Chase winner Politologue will take charge of this race at the tape, thereby giving NUBE NEGRA the pace he requires to aim at. In a fascinating trial for the ‘Queen Mother’ here at the Festival in March, Rouge Vif debuts for Paul Nicholls and last year’s winner Put The Kettle On makes her seasonal return for Henry de Bromhead. She will most likely head the market, but reading between the lines could need the race. However, NUBE NEGRA is always very good when fresh from a break, and can utilise his superior speed to swamp his foes up the final hill.

Race 4 Unibet Greatwood Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3)

No6 CAMPROND
Trainer: Philip Hobbs – Jockey: Aidan Coleman

CAMPROND looks to have consolidated from a bountiful novice season judging by his clear cut triumphs at Chepstow and the Showcase meeting here last month. His ability shines through when he can challenge off a strong pace in a big field, as will hopefully be the case here. He has rock solid credentials, and with Hollywoodbets paying down to fifth is a knocking each way proposition. West Cork appeals as the joker in the pack in consideration of his long absence from the racecourse and the assessor’s difficulty in affording him an accurate mark for this first handicap assignment. The Midnight Legend gelding looked smart as a novice, and taking stock of his connections, will surely lack for nothing in the fitness department. Jesse Evans has been a mover in the ante post market, and can prove best of the Irish contingent for this ultra competitive heat. Noel Meade’s challenger cruised to a confidence-boosting success on the Flat that should have put him cherry-ripe. Two that take the eye at bigger odds are Cormier and roughie Rowland Ward. Cormier hails from a stable that has a good record with its previous Greatwood runners, and is closely matched with Camprond on a line through the absent Copperless. Rowland Ward ran well in a Grade3 at Chepstow, and could take home a minor cheque, even though that will require a personal best from him.

Prediction: 1st CAMPROND, 2nd West Cork, 3rd Cormier, 4th Jesse Evans, 5th Rowland Ward

Race 5 No1 I LIKE TO MOVE IT (Nap)
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies

Locally-trained I LIKE TO MOVE IT beat more experienced rivals in stylish fashion here last month, leaving the impression that he could be charting richer bounty in the run up to Christmas. He floored the useful dual purpose horse Tritonic in a way that left no fluke about the outcome. He is napped to complete a hat-trick, and to remain unbeaten over hurdles.

FONTWELL PARK

Race 1 No13 WISEGUY (Nap)
Trainer: Nicky Henderson – Jockey: James Bowen

Henderson has been sparing with his runners over what looked like being a rain-free weekend, but sent out a likeable novice to win a similar race to this at Uttoxeter on Friday. His runner here WISEGUY inched out Hillcrest on debut in a Doncaster bumper, form that has been boosted by the second. If he jumps as well as he’s schooled at home he will be hard to beat.

Race 6 No6 GAME LINE
Trainer: Peter Bowen – Jockey: James Bowen

GAME LINE has been a credit to his trainer, scoring on three of his five outings over fences this year. He has the balance and brawn to handle this figure-of-eight track, and can prove another winner for his in-form trainer.
