Neil Morrice Best Bets

Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips from Catterick, Catterick, Leicester, Lingfield Park and Southwell on Tuesday 6 October 2020.

CATTERICK

Race 2: No3 – ROOSTER
Trainer: Hughie Morrison – Jockey: Danny Tudhope
ROOSTER looks an interesting option for this nursery on his first outing since a wind operation. The Showcasing colt has earned in one of his four starts when second at Wolverhampton in June and has shown a modicum of ability in subsequent turf outings at Windsor and Goodwood. He’s well drawn and carries the colours of a lucky owner in the yard.

Race 6: No5 – ROUND THE ISLAND (Nap)
Trainer: Richard Whitaker – Jockey: Phil Dennis
This looks a good opportunity for Pontefract specialist ROUND THE ISLAND to showcase his wares at a different Yorkshire track. He’s operated here on his last two outings and finished second in a Class 5 and latterly at this level in a Class 6. Facing a field of mainly out of form rivals, he can gain a deserved change of luck.

LEICESTER

Race 7: No5 – TROLL PENINSULA (Nap)
Trainer: Roger Varian – Jockey: Andrea Atzeni
Those that have already run don’t seem up to much in this novice stakes, leaving the focus of attention on newcomers Alexej and TROLL PENINSULA. Preference is for the latter, a gelded son of the owners’ Breeders’ Cup winner Karakontie whose shown ability at home ahead of this late entrance to the stage.
Race 8: No4 – WOODCOCK
Trainer: Henry Candy – Jockey: Emma Taff
Handicap debutant WOODCOCK appeals as a potential improver dropped back to seven furlongs and can get into the shake-up to rattle the cage of multiple scorer Mr Millarcky. The latter has delivered on his last three starts but as the least exposed runner Woodcock holds room for improvement, having progressed to trouble the judge at Chepstow and Kempton.
LINGFIELD PARK

Race 1: No6 – EL CONQUISTADOR (Nap)
Trainer: Shaun Keightley – Jockey: Josephine Gordon
EL CONQUISTADOR is a fascinating contender for the opener on only a second start for his trainer, and fourth in all. Racing in the colours of Investec Oaks winner, he’s been back and forth between Joseph O’Brien and his current trainer, gaining a handicap mark with a third placing in a Chelmsford novice. The Kitten’s Joy gelding should definitely be monitored for a favourable move in the market.
Race 2: No7 – DARK MOTIVE
Trainer: Ralph Beckett – Jockey: Harry Bentley
This stable has been in buoyant form through the autumn and look to hold the key to this novice in DARK MOTIVE. The Motivator filly was beaten just a head into third in a blanket finish on debut at Newbury when easy in the market, a run she need only make normal progress from to have a great chance of opening her account.

SOUTHWELL

Race 6: No7 – THUNDERSTONE (Nap)
Trainer: Simon Crisford – Jockey: Tony Hamilton
With the addition of first time, blinkers THUNDERSTONE can pose problems for unbeaten top weight Mirage Mac and Serious Intention in this nursery. He sported cheekpieces when chasing home Mister Allegro on all-weather debut at Kempton which in its own way brought about improvement. With different headgear another bold showing in on the cards.

Race 7: No5 – CAPLA CUBISTE
Trainer: Sir Mark Prescott – Jockey: Luke Morris
Archipenko filly CAPLA CUBISTE has run well on both Fibresand outings, finishing second in a maiden at this time last year and opening her account there at the end of August. She looks the type to add to her laurels through the winter.
