PERTH

Race 3 No3 POPPA POUTINE
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies

This stable must always be respected with its raids on the Scone Palace circuit and POPPA POUTINE is of particular interest. A regular earner in his first season over fences, the gelding troubled the judge in the Highland National here when last seen in April. He’s thrived for his summer break, and won’t mind cutting back on the distance ladder for this return to the fray.

Race 4 No3 BALLYANDY
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies

It’s fascinating that BALLYANDY returns to fences following a four year absence from them. The former Cheltenham Festival winner scored on his chase debut at this course before being let down by his jumping but he’s schooled with proficiency ahead of this seasonal return, and can show aged 11 that he can still pack a punch.

Race 7 No2 NAVEGAON GATE
Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies

Frankel gelding NAVEGAON GATE is still learning the rudiments of jumping, but showed enough in his four outings last season to suggest he can profit his followers through the new campaign. On this first run in almost six months he’s ready to do himself justice.

GOODWOOD

Race 1 No4 RATHGAR (Nap)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Tom Marquand

Ulysses colt RATHGAR shaped with abundant promise in what looked a decent maiden here last month, looming as a danger before falling away inside the final furlong under sympathetic handling. The chestnut has learned much from that initial experience, and will relish this quarter mile longer trip.

Race 2 No11 TRAIS FLUORS (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: David Probert

TRAIS FLUORS has gone off the radar and never really threatened to take a hand in his latest outing at Newbury on Saturday. However, this former Group winner in France has dropped to a more than workable mark, and if deciding to put his best foot forward can make an impact in what looks a wide open claiming handicap.

Race 6 No9 PRIDE OF NEPAL
Trainer: Jeremy Scott – Jockey: Andrea Atzeni

Jumps trainer Scott has enjoyed notable success with PRIDE OF NEPAL who seeks a fourth success on just his eighth appearance this year. He sparked his winning spree over this course and distance in June, and has assembled impressive figures of 12312 subsequently. He was costly in defeat when starting 11-10 at Windsor last month, but can bounce straight back.

Race 7 No9 TRUSTY RUSTY
Trainer: Tony Carroll – Jockey: Mollie Phillips

TRUSTY RUSTY has thrived since her switch to turf in June, posting smooth successes at Chepstow and Salisbury and placing at Newbury. She’s established a fine understanding with her apprentice jockey and the combination look poised for another payday.

REDCAR

Race 3 No2 COVERDALE
Trainer: Ed Bethell – Jockey: PJ McDonald

COVERDALE was beaten just two lengths by the winner Perfect Play when fourth at Carlisle, having run well in similar fashion behind the smart Pol Roger on debut at Haydock. The Expert Eye colt has an experience edge on most of his rivals in this maiden for future stayers, and can open his account.

Race 7 No6 MAGICAL EFFECT
Trainer: Ruth Carr – Jockey: Jason Hart

It was by a dwindling short head that MAGICAL EFFECT failed to catch Round The Island at Pontefract last week. The ten-year-old had bolted up on his previous outing at Catterick, and while in this rich vein of form should be backed to regain the winning thread.

SOUTHWELL

Race 2 No1 KITBAG
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: George Bass

KITBAG appeared to lose interest from an unfavourable draw in a warm nursery at Newcastle last week. His rider was not over hard on the Territories gelding, who had previously chased home the impressive Mill Reef Stakes winner Sakheer at Haydock. Now returned to the all-weather, on which he recorded his only success, Kitbag can bounce back.

Race 4 No11 BOMB SQUAD
Trainer: John Mackie – Jockey: Connor Murtagh

BOMB SQUAD looked unlucky not to prevail Thirsk last week where he travelled much the best only to get chinned on the line. Though back in non selling company he should still have a part to play in the finish of this low grade sprint handicap.

KEMPTON PARK

Race 4 No1 LAUREL (Nap)
Trainer: John Gosden – Jockey: Benoit De La Sayette

LAUREL made no mistake to land some good bets on her Newmarket introduction, looking a filly to follow in the process. This beautifully-bred individual can defy a penalty at the main expense of Follow That Star.

Race 8 No10 JUANITA
Trainer: Denis Coakley – Jockey: Charles Bishop

JUANITA raised her game to take home a minor cheque at Windsor, but was only narrowly beaten in a blanket finish. It represents a step up on anything she’d achieved before, and if building on it she can go close to taking out the day’s nightcap.
