Brighton Best Bets
Race 1: ZAULA (5)
Trainer: Mick Channon
Jockey: David Egan
Having taken a while to settle in after switching stables halfway through the season, ZAULA has knocked on the door and looks to have her best chance yet of putting her head in front. She’s no star but should appreciate dropping back to the minimum trip after finishing second to Whisper Aloud at Bath.
Race 3: CHATHAM HOUSE (1)
Trainer: Richard Hannon
Jockey: Sean Levey
CHATHAM HOUSE carries top weight because he’s the best horse in the race and can continue his fine run for form in what looks a much more straightforward assignment than he had when runner up to Case Key in a Class 4 at Newmarket last time. The three-year-old travelled and stayed on well, doing nothing wrong to post a fifth straight frame finish. He had previously dotted up to open his account for the year and will be hard to beat.
Worcester Best Bets
Race 1: MIDNIGHT GEM (7)
Trainer: Mrs S Leech
Jockey: Adrian Heskin
MIDNIGHT GEM overcame a tendency to jump out to the right when scoring at Southwell in what signalled a marked improvement on anything he had shown earlier in the season. This looks another good opportunity for him to keep up the good work.
Race 3: DALKINGSTOWN (1)
Trainer: Peter Bowen
Jockey: Sean Bowen
Strictly on the book, DALKINGSTOWN will struggle to confirm Worcester placings with Present Chief, when the latter came from well off the pace to be denied in a head bob. The penalised selection is around 7lbs worse off but remains the better prospect as that was his third win in as many starts under Rules.
Race 6: BALLYGOWN BAY (1)
Trainer: Philip Hobbs
Jockey: Richard Johnson
Returning from a three-month break that has freshened him up, BALLYGOWN BAY can start to live up to the promise shown last year. Hailing from a top stable and dropping into this maiden hurdle from handicaps, the 6yo went well in his final gallop for this.
