Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets for Thursday’s racing coming your way from Wincanton, Carlisle, Southwell and Newcastle.
WINCANTON
Race 1 No 5 RUN TO MILAN
Trainer: Victor Dartnall – Jockey: Alan Johns
RUN TO MILAN romped in at Exeter on Tuesday and must be backed to keep up the good work before he can be reassessed. He doesn’t have many miles on the clock owing to injury problems and should make up for lost time by running up a sequence.
Race 2 No 11 FLOWING CADENZA (Each Way)
Trainer: Bob Buckler – Jockey: Sean Houlihan
On the back of a good effort here last time, FLOWING CADENZA can again take home a cheque for her small local stable. The Yeats mare likes to be competitive and should find the ground acceptable following some inclement weather over the past 24 hours. As long as she can get her toe in she should again get into the shake-up.
Race 4 No 12 SIXTEEN LETTERS (Each Way)
Trainer: Kayley Woollacott – Jockey: Ben Godfrey
This stable is doing well with its novices and at likely big double-figure odds SIXTEEN LETTERS takes the eye. His appearances since leaving the Irish point-to-point circuit have been sporadic, but a recent run to finish just out of the money at Chepstow suggests there could be better to come from him.
CARLISLE
Race 2 No 7 EVITA DU MESNIL (Nap)
Trainer: DARAIN Bourke – Jockey: Kevin Brogan
EVITA DU MESNIL can add to a good record for this stable and post a third victory from just six outings. She reserves her best for undulating surfaces and looks in a good spot to advertise her liking for this course and distance.
Race 5 No 9 CENTRAL FLAME
Trainer: James Walton – Jockey: Conor O’Farrell
Consistency is the hallmark of veteran CENTRAL FLAME on whom O’Farrell has ridden back-to-back seconds clouding over course and distance last time. There is still a tune to be played by the teenager who can post a first success since April, 2015.
SOUTHWELL
Race 4 No 4 KOMMANDER KIRKUP
Trainer: Michael Herrington – Jockey: Jack Mitchell
From the rail KOMMANDER KIRKUP should be able to grab a nice sit behind the leader turning into the straight before making the best of his way home. He signalled when chasing home prolific scorer Owhatanight over course and distance last time that he’s ready to deliver.
Race 6 No 1 SPEED COMPANY (Nap)
Trainer: Ian Williams – Jockey: Richard Kingscote
From a stable that’s amongst the winners in different areas of the racing code, SPEED COMPANY can gain a first victory on the Flat. He chased the shadow of the useful Natural History on a couple of occasions last autumn and that level of form would be sufficient to see him kiss goodbye to these foes.
NEWCASTLE
Race 1 No 6 FLINT HILL
Trainer: Ruth Jefferson – Jockey: Graham Lee
Dual purpose horse FLINT HILL is fresh from a break for a first run on Tapeta for two and a half years. He’s hit the woodwork a couple of times in hurdle races and remains lightly-raced with scope for progression.
Race 6 No 6 ANTAGONIZE (Nap)
Trainer: Bryan Smart – Jockey: Graham Lee
ANTAGONIZE looked to be running into form when chasing home Broctune Red over course and distance last month and can take advantage of a pull in the weights with that reopposing rival in a race that should also see roughie Polar Cloud lighting up the board.
