Doom Bar Maghull Novices’ Chase (Grade 1)
15:00 – Race 3 – 1M 7F 176Y
CLONDAW CASTLE (2) – 2/1
Trainer: Tom George
Jockey: Ciaran Gethings
Having belied his 33-1 odds CLONDAW CASTLE only lost out on second in the final 150 yards of the Arkle Trophy at Cheltenham, a run that confirms Tom George’s gelding is still improving. He has to turn that round with the runner-up Us And Them but on this flatter track with an easier finish he’s capable of achieving it.

Betway Handicap Chase (Grade 3)
16:20 – Race 5 – 3M 210Y
DEBECE (4) – 7/1
Trainer: Tim Vaughan
Jockey: Alan Johns
It’s hard to know what DEBECE has achieved in his last two winning starts but he could do no more than get the job done with real authority. His trainer is enjoying a fine season and looks as if he’s got the eight-year-old into this off a tempting mark. The fact that he’s a front runner will hopefully ensure he doesn’t encounter any traffic problems.

Race 3: WILD FLOWER (9)
Trainer: Jimmy Fox
Jockey: Kieren O’Neill
Being drawn on the outside is not an advantage to
WILD FLOWER but the mare served up an encouraging first helping of the year when third to Krazy Paving over this course and distance last month. A 50-1 roughie on that occasion, she displayed excellent tactical speed to be reeled-in very late and beaten just inches in a three-way photo. If she can get across to the rail she has a strong claim to wiring this uncompetitive handicap.

Race 4: SWEET CHARITY (5) Each Way
Trainer: Denis Coakley
Jockey: David Egan
Although carded to go off the rank outsider SWEET CHARITY has thrived through the winter and can prove a surprise packet under former champion apprentice Egan. She looked it good heart in her winding up gallop for this at West Ilsley, and is worth chancing.
