Race 2: BOUGHTBEFORELUNCH (1)
Trainer: Paul Webber
Jockey: Richie McLernon
Locally trained BOUGHTBEFORELUNCH has shown a penchant for this course and can show the benefit of a short mid-season break. He has to concede plenty of weight to those at the base of the handicap but having schooled and worked well last week he’s ready to put his best foot forward.
Race 4: KING OF REALMS (3)
Trainer: Ian Williams
Jockey: Robbie Dunne
KING OF REALMS has a decent chance of getting into an easy lead here, and if doing so can compensate connections for his recent defeat by Samuel Jackson at Exeter. He goes to post a fresh horse and with a first time visor looks the one to beat.
Wolverhampton Best Bets
Race 5: USTATH (5)
Trainer: Owen Burrows
Jockey: Dane O’Neill
The superbly-bred USTATH hit the crossbar on his first two juvenile starts and was a shade disappointing when out of the money on his next and final outing over 1000 metres at Nottingham. His trainer’s ploy of stepping him back up to 1200 metres looks the right call and he’s been giving off some very good signals in his preparation for this.
Race 6: SEA SHACK (5)
Trainer: Julia Feilden
Jockey: Scott McCullough
SEA SHACK often lights up the board without winning but this looks a real chance for him to get his head in front after another frame finish at Chelmsford last time where he was doing his best work at the finish. McCullough is good value for his 7lb claim and the combination should be in the thick of things at the business end.
Chelmsford City Best Bet
Race 4: RUX POWER (12)
Trainer: Andrew Balding
Jockey: Silvestre De Sousa
This looks a straight match between the colt White Coat and the filly RUX POWER and I fancy the latter to prevail. Her second placing in a competitive Goodwood maiden on turf last August reads particularly well, while the 5lb sex allowance further tilts the scales in her favour.
