Race 6: CHASING DREAMS (4)
Trainer: Charlie Appleby
Jockey: William Buick
The Appleby operation has shown itself to be bombproof this year and it can strike again with the stable’s first juvenile runner of the season, CHASING DREAMS. The hooded colt in by Star sprinter Statspangledbanner and a half-brother to the very speedy filly Mrs Gallagher, who scored on two of her first three starts as a juvenile.
Race 8: MARHABAN (2)
Trainer: Charlie Appleby
Jockey: William Buick
Even though it’s hard to rule out any of the five that contest this 3yo handicap, MARHABAN looks another poised to deliver for the Appleby wing of the Godolphin operation. He landed the odds in comfortable style at Wolverhampton and has worked pleasingly since that February win, preparing for this switch to grass.
Exeter Best Bets
Race 1: ASK DILLON (1)
Trainer: Fergal O’Brien
Jockey: Paddy Brennan
This brings together three novices that should dominate affairs… hat-trick seeker Dolphin Square, the consistent Mr Pumblechook and ASK DILLON who gets the vote. He opened his account in an Ascot maiden hurdle over this trip and was not disgraced chasing home the smart Umbrigado at this course. Out of his depth in the Ballymore at the Cheltenham Festival, he can resume winning ways back in his comfort zone.
Race 3: MELEKHOV (3)
Trainer: Philip Hobbs
Jockey: Richard Johnson
Everything looks set for a big run from MELEKHOV who posted two successes in bumpers and has transferred that ability to hurdles. His first run as a novice yielded a satisfactory frame finish but better was to come when he was the only horse to make a race of it with the talented Scaramanga at Taunton. If he improves on that he will be very hard to beat.
