Neil Morrice: UK Racing Tips – Wednesday 17 July 2019

Jockeys ride horses

Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets from Wednesday’s racing at Catterick, Yarmouth, Lingfield, Wolverhampton and Uttoxeter.

Catterick Best Bets

Race 6: COMPUTABLE (10) (Each Way)
Trainer: Tim Easterby
Jockey: Rachel Richardson

Lightly-raced this season, COMPUTABLE can take advantage of a class drop for his in-form stable. He fared better than his finishing position indicated in a Class 4 at Beverley after losing ground by junking left at the start. But it was an improvement on his other two starts and he could be dangerous getting weight from all nine of his opponents.

Race 7: BE PERFECT (1)
Trainer: Ruth Carr
Jockey: Mr M Ennis

BE PERFECT meets out of form rivals and holds strong claims to bounce back from his defeat in a better race than this at Epsom. After looking in trouble he recovered to run Nathan to a length and a quarter, with the nature of that switchback course not seeming to play to his strengths. He’s a strong traveller who knows how to win round here, and will be hard to beat.

Yarmouth Best Bets

Race 2: SPREADSHEET (4)
Trainer: Roger Varian
Jockey: Andrea Atzeni

All but one of the six runners have a chance of sorts but SPREADSHEET looks full of potential, having been backed into odds-on only to fall to Oti Ma Boati on his debut at Newcastle. That confidence reflected the fine style with which he had worked at home and it was only through greenness that he succumbed to his more experienced rival. It should be a different story and he can get the better of Al Namir.

Race 5: FIVE DIAMONDS (4)
Trainer: William Haggas
Jockey: Jim Crowley

FIVE DIAMONDS is out to show that the losses incurred on her at Beverley are merely lent and she seems fully entitled to start a warm favourite for this. She might have scored on that introduction had she not displayed signs of greenness. When the penny dropped approaching the final furlong it was too late for her to catch Muhaarar’s Nephew.

Lingfield Best Bets

Race 2: DARK LADY (3)
Trainer: Richard Hannon
Jockey: Ryan Moore

This looks a perfect opportunity for DARK LADY to endorse the promise of her debut outing at Newbury in which she finished off her race strongly, a length adrift of So Sharp. Like most juveniles from her stable she is almost certain to take a big step forward and as she does most of her training on an all-weather surface the switch to Polytrack shouldn’t pose any problems.

Race 6: ALL RIGHT (10)
Trainer: Henry Candy
Jockey: Dane O’Neill

A first glimpse of ability from the well related ALL RIGHT came when she troubled the judge on her handicap debut at Chepstow. At one point it looked like she could come through and pick off the leaders, but she got tired. There’s a future for this horse and if turning the tables on third-placed Sari Mareis she has to be involved.

Wolverhampton Best Bets

Race 3: BIRD FOR LIFE (2) (Each Way)
Trainer: Mark Usher
Jockey: Ellie Mackenzie

A switch to turf should not inconvenience BIRD FOR LIFE who should offer up some value in a wide-open staying handicap. The selection goes to post off the back of a solid effort behind Thresholdofadream at Kempton, where a bold move to lead at halfway came close to paying off.

Race 4: HYDROPLANE (1)
Trainer: Sir Mark Prescott
Jockey: Luke Morris

Now that the Prescott horses are reaching a rich vein of form the logical Bet is HYDROPLANE to follow-up her Salisbury success in which she looked better the further she travelled. Penalised for that first career triumph, she remains unexposed and can deliver in what looks a weak 3yo only handicap.

Uttoxeter Best Bets

Race 3: HENRIETTA BELL (1)
Trainer: Harry Whittington
Jockey: Gavin Sheehan

The best way for HENRIETTA BELL to beat Nordican Breue in this mares’ Novices hurdle is for her to try to take the sting out of the latter’ finish and I fancy her chances of achieving it. She had a couple of hard-luck stories on her CV before opening her account over hurdles and was going well enough when falling in a competitive handicap at Southwell.
