Winning Form Best Bets
Race 1: NIRVANA(9)
Race 6: JUBILEE LINE(10)
Race 9: PONTEDERA(15)
Race 11: MASTER’S SPIRIT(7)
Race 4: BRUTAL FORCE(3)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Joey RAMSDEN
BRUTAL FORCE may have been a fortuitous victor of his Highveld debut over this c & d three weeks ago but the chestnut gelding showed his fighting qualities as he came back strongly to outdo the Sean Tarry inmate, TRIP TO HEAVEN. However, the Joey Ramsden inmate was returning from a 12 week break and his conditioner wouldn’t have had him in peak condition. He is 3kgs better off with the runner-up now and there is obviously plenty more to come from the son of Western Winter. He will certainly strip fitter and his determination, coupled with Anton Marcus’ strength could be a winning combination.
Race 5: NEGROAMARO(9)
Jockey: Weichong MARWING – Trainer: Johan Janse v/Vuuren
The grey filly NEGROAMARO was clearly in need of her comeback run in a feature over seven furlongs recently but she will strip fitter today and is expected to love the mile. The daughter of Fort Wood showed her class when she thrashed subsequent feature winner Madame Dubois whilst a maiden in her penultimate run in mid-June. She has huge room for improvement and though she has plenty to find with JOAN RANGER on their last meeting, she will be an entirely different proposition now. She jumps from a better draw and will show her class.
TOP BET
Race 8: TROPHY WIFE(3)
Jockey: Raymond DANIELSON – Trainer: Sean TARRY
Just eight runners head to post for this famous Grade 2 contest and after the three-year olds were handed a thrashing last year, the younger generation have steered clear this time around. This event could also be run at a false pace but another thrilling finish is on the cards and a trio of entrants should dominate. The Sean Tarry yard saddles two of those referred to above and TROPHY WIFE has been hurried along to get ready for this event. She produced a fair display in her comeback run and her conditioner is never one to get them ready, a race too soon. The top class daughter of Tiger Ridge has obviously taken that run, nine days ago, exceptionally well. She hasn’t won for over a year but her form in all the three-year old features underlines her potential. She will strip fitter and the likely false pace could be exactly what she requires.
Race 10: FINCHATTON(8)
FINCHATTON is in good rhythm and he is overdue his second career victory. He was caught late over this trip on the inside track under a big mass last time and did well in strong company despite racing wide over this c & d prior to that. He finished a neck adrift of today’s likely favourite SILVER SCOOTER on that occasion and despite being 1.5kgs worse off with the latter, the son of Right Approach jumps from a good draw now. He should handle this slight rise in class and merits healthy respect.
VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:
SANSUI SUMMER CUP
Race 7: ULTIMATE DOLLAR(12)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Justin SNAITH
Whilst the previous contest may not yield a true result due to the lack of pace, this Grade 1 event will be completely the opposite. The arch-rivals ULTIMATE DOLLAR and ST TROPEZ renew their rivalry in a third province, having met back home in the ‘Mother City’ on a few occasions and then twice in KZN during the winter. The score reads 3-2 in favour of the top selection who had excuses for his below par last run over a mile on this track. He got going really late in a false run affair that day and will love this testing ten furlongs. The Jet Master gelding will be cherry-ripe on his third run back from a break and Strydom retains the ride. He will relish the likely strong gallop.
His fellow Cape visitor (ST TROPEZ) is ultra-consistent and he had a smashing Gauteng debut victory over nine furlongs on the inside course in his comeback run, five weeks ago. He kept going to beat the game filly AHLAAM (0.5kg worse off) that day and will strip much fitter now. He was soundly beaten by the top selection in his penultimate run but will be ‘at home’ on this longer run-in. He finishes his races well and Marcus has a good record on the Silvano gelding.
HALVE THE DEFICIT and FRENCH NAVY should be involved.
