Magic Tips Best Bets

TOP BET
Race 3: SHOOT THE BULL(2)
Jockey: Muzi YENI – Trainer: Kumaran NAIDOO

Just nine runners head to post for this six-furlong maiden affair but with more than half the field boasting some decent form, an exciting finish should materialise. SHOOT THE BULL has done well over this c & d recently and in-form jockey Muzi Yeni retains the ride on the four-year-old gelding who showed a different side to his game last time out. He raced just off the pace after a slightly slow start but ran on smartly for 2nd behind an improving juvenile. The hot pace should suit the Kom Naidoo inmate today and he could be the one to beat, particularly with the going on top.

Race 4: QUEENS DIAMOND(1)
Jockey: Brandon LERENA – Trainer: Alyson WRIGHT

This is a very interesting first leg of the Jackpot and although the betting market suggests otherwise the contest isn’t cut-and-dried for the short-priced favourite. QUEENS DIAMOND should start as second favourite and she confirmed her affection for the grass as she bounced right back to form with a solid display in her comeback run over this c & d last month. She renews her rivalry with the Gauteng visitor WARM NIGHT ALICE and has that neck deficit to overturn. The Alyson Wright inmate has had more experience which could count for plenty and she will be fitter this time around. Jockey Brandon Lerena retains the ride.

Race 6: GREEK LEGEND(2)
Jockey: Lyle HEWITSON – Trainer: Michael AZZIE

Some true results due to solid gallops could be the order of the day and this competitive handicap should be no different. Once again there are some useful types on display and the well handicapped GREEK LEGEND is expected to thrive in the fast run affair. The Mike Azzie inmate is versatile but is clearly ineffective down Greyville’s short run-in, particularly in a false run affair such as the Gold Vase on July Day. He had a fair prior effort on this track in the Derby and of course, proved his well being with a gutsy victory over a mile at a higher level on the Highveld before coming down to KZN for the season. His good draw is a major plus and he can cause the upset.

Race 7: PIROGUE(4)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Doug CAMPBELL

Once again the pace should be solid and that will suit the top selection PIROGUE who is in a very good space after a string of smart recent performances over this distance. Undoubtedly, his best effort came when he ran on steadily for 3rd in a false run affair over this c & d in much stronger company, two weeks ago. The son of Mullins Bay clearly escaped without a penalty for that run and top jockey Delpech could exploit that today. Of course, he partnered the gelding to an easy victory over this track & trip in his penultimate start at a similar level.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 8: MISS TEE(10)
Jockey: Sifiso LEMBETHE – Trainer: James GOODMAN

MISS TEE had legitimate excuses for her uncharacteristic last performance over this c & d and the seven-week break would have definitely helped her cause. She had some decent prior form, particularly on this course and her second-placed finish to Zante at conditions level three runs back, stands out in her formline, especially after the latter’s exploits subsequently. The four-year-old filly is well- handicapped with 53.5kgs and she is drawn well at gate 4. Furthermore, her jockey has shown some encouraging signs in the past fortnight.
