FIRST CRUSADE is a promising sort who found five furlongs too sharp for him recently but still ran on strongly late for a close 4th. He had a promising debut over this c & d behind a highly rated sort and has plenty of scope for improvement. The Kannemeyer inmate is the pick of the raced runners and he should take a power of beating. The newcomers should be closely watched in the betting market and the locally based yard of trainer Alistair Gordon has already tasted much success with his juveniles this campaign.

Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Joey RAMSDEN
ANCESTRY is highly regarded by his conditioner and his local debut eight days ago proved exactly why. The Oratorio colt built on his pleasing Cape debut when he ran on smartly for 2nd in a strong field of winners at feature level over seven furlongs at Greyville earlier this month. He was returning from a 17-week break so should strip much fitter and has huge room for further improvement. It is slightly concerning that he races so soon but his class could shine through in this very mediocre contest. His conditioner is obviously trying to qualify him for a tilt at the features on July Day and the bay will relish the step-up to the mile.
Race 3: ESTEEMAL(4)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Justin SNAITH
ESTEEMAL has displayed promising form and her last effort clearly indicated that she is searching for further. That formline was boosted when her conqueror Meryl won subsequently and the conditioner of this daughter of Captain Al has obliged with the extra furlong. The bay filly meets a very moderate bunch and she won’t get an easier chance to shed her maiden tag.
Race 9: SILENT OBSESSION(2)
Jockey: Keagan DE MELO – Trainer: Duncan HOWELLS
The Enticer c & d formline should dominate proceedings in this final event and the top selection SILENT OBSESSION holds his rivals safe. Of course, he showed great fighting spirit but ultimately deservedly lost that last contest in the boardroom after shifting his ground in the closing stages. However, he finished comfortably ahead of the next placed entrant FESTIVAL STAR and should take a power of beating from the best barrier position.
Race 7: FRANCIA(5)
There are numerous very capable stayers who should fight out a titanic clash in this marathon Grade 3 contest but the real value could lie with the Snaith-trained FRANCIA who is her jockey’s solitary ride on the card. The classy stayer should have gone closer but for traffic issues on her local debut behind subsequent winner Louisiana eight weeks ago. Of course, she produced top quality performances behind her stable companions and today’s Derby contenders Ovidio and subsequent winning Captain Splendid in the ‘Mother City’.
