Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips from UK Racing at Hereford, Kempton Park and Southwell.
Hereford Best Bets
Race 2: FRISSON COLLONGES (3)
Trainer: Dan Skelton
Jockey: Harry Skelton
The rarity that FRISSON COLLONGES sees the racecourse suggests he isn’t the easiest to train but he must be considered unfortunate not to have opened his account when frittering a five length lead on the run in at Hereford when last seen in December. Today’s extra distance should be a help rather than a hindrance.
Race 4: AYE AYE CHARLIE (2)
Trainer: Fergal O’Brien
Jockey: Paddy Brennan
AYE AYE CHARLIE has been asked to mix it with the best of them in all three chase starts this season but now rates the one to beat eased in class and racing at a country track. Admittedly Ice Cool Champs looks a dangerous foe, but if the selection runs up to near his best he should win.
Race 7: SHINTORI (2)
Trainer: Jack Barber
Jockey: Nick Schofield
Back over hurdles, the strong travelling SHINTORI makes a lot of sense in the nightcap as he’s competing off a 6lb lower mark than when successful in heavy going at Plumpton in November. He will need hanging onto until late in the game, which should enable him to notch a first win over these smaller obstacles.
Kempton Park Best Bets
Race 4: BOLD SUITOR (4)
Trainer: Ed Walker
Jockey: Luke Morris
Having made the perfect start to his career in handicaps by bolting up at Newcastle, BOLD SUITOR gets an automatic vote to go in again. He’s going to relish the slightly longer trip this evening, has a good draw and possesses more scope for further progression than fellow recent winners London Calling and Lyricist Voice.
Race 6: CONTINUUM (9)
Trainer: Peter Hedger
Jockey: Poppy Bridgwater
It’s a bizarre statement to make that the penny has only just dropped for CONTINUUM on the all-weather, as the now 11-year-old was having a 20th start on sand when powering home at Kempton last time. However, it’s amazing what a win can do for a horse’s confidence and with his rise in the weights negated by his rider’s claim he can go in again.
Southwell Best Bets
Race 5: AMAZING AMAYA (9)
Trainer: Derek Shaw
Jockey: William Carver
This stable had the 1-2 with Final Legacy beating AMAZING AMAYA here last week but at the revised weights the latter can turn the tables. It was only the mare’s second outing of the year and she was finishing the stronger. If she can keep tabs on her barn mate it should be a different result.
