LAGERTHA produced a very good comeback run when returning from a 71-week break. She should have won that day as she jumped awkwardly and hung in the closing stages. The daughter of Frankel will enjoy the extra furlong on offer and should strip a much fitter horse. Chamu Mabaya retains the ride and the combination should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.

TYRUS EXPRESS was ultra-impressive when winning his last start over ten furlongs on the Classic course. He was baulked for running room between the 450m mark and the 250m mark that day, but once seeing daylight he drew away from the opposition with ease. He has won once and finished third once from five starts on this course. With a bit of luck in running, he can follow up.

WINTER SMOKE was beaten by the narrowest of margins in her last start over this distance on the Classic course. She was ridden with restraint that day and just couldn’t collar her stable companion. The daughter of What A Winter is the best-weighted runner in this contest and should strip a much fitter horse. She may be hard to peg back in the run down to the wire.
Race 8: HERSTEL (2)
Jockey: Lerena G – Trainer: Dawson C
HERSTEL is one of the better bets on today’s card. She ran on powerfully to win her last start over the minimum trip at Turffontein. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The daughter of Captain Of All should have no issues with the extra furlong on offer and should take a power of beating.

MY KINGDOM is the value bet on this afternoon’s card. He has taken on much stronger company in his last two starts. The son of Greys Inn makes his handicap debut this afternoon and with Gavin Lerena taking the ride, he should cause the upset.
