Race 2: PRINCESS AURORA(2)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Geoff WOODRUFF

It could pay to follow the progress of Shah’s Storm in today’s opening event as the Captured Quality c & d formline is well-represented in this field. PRINCESS AURORA has improved smartly with each of her three runs to date and the Woodruff inmate ran on strongly for a close 3rd last time out. She was half a length adrift of the runner-up SIM-ALLEY BANK but has had fewer attempts and clearly has more scope for improvement. The daughter of Horse Chestnut will be ridden by Strydom for the first time.

Race 3: WALL OF ICE(3)
Jockey: Juan-Paul VAN DER MERVE – Trainer: St JOHN

The pace or lack thereof should be crucial in this small maiden field over nine furlongs and the finish should be exciting. WALL OF ICE won’t be aided by a sedate gallop but he boasts solid recent form and the long run-in is a definite plus. He has improved nicely with blinkers and has a decent say with the headgear on once again.

Race 7: POOL PARTY(3)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA – Trainer: Roy MAGNER

The juvenile POOL PARTY looks way above-average and she pushed another quality sort hard when going down narrowly in a competitive event over 1160m on July Day. This drop in distance shouldn’t pose a problem for the daughter of Kahal who clearly has plenty more to offer. She shoulders a big mass but will still take all the beating. It is most interesting that top jockey Gavin Lerena only has this ride on the entire card.

Race 8: NOAH’S ARK(1)

Jockey: Chad LITTLE – Trainer: Paul PETER

NOAH’S ARK
preferred reverting to sprinting as he kept going well to win a good last handicap contest over this trip on the Vaal Classic Track. He clearly seems to have escaped with just a three-pound penalty and the well-related son of Ideal World still has lots more to offer. He meets a few rivals on slightly worse terms but is only having his sixth career outing and the Paul Peter charge could be even better down the straight. Once again, he is the only ride for jockey Chad Little on the card.
VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 6: BIRD ALLEY(11)
Jockey: Karl ZECHNER – Trainer: St JOHN GRAY

The three-year-olds could have a decent say in this marathon low-key handicap, with the St John Gray duo of BIRD ALLEY and ZOO ALLEY the preferred choice. These daughters of Jam Alley give every indication that they could develop into hard-knocking handicap stayers. The pair weren’t far adrift of the well-ridden rank outsider SHANKLY GATES over nine furlongs on this track last Tuesday and they are weighted to rein in the latter. The former performed worst of the trio that day but she is c & d suit- ed, having captured her maiden over the track and trip. She could be the right one.
