Race 5

OAKFIELD HAWK has posted two solid last runs, winning his maiden race last time out over 1900M by a head, this despite being hampered in the early stages. He delivered a powerful finish from some way back that day and whilst drawn wide in gate twelve and taking on stronger here, he should be doing his best work late and may well be up to the task at hand.

CHARMED DESTINY has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when fourth over 1900M, 0.8L behind the winner. The gelding struck the front at the 200M mark that day, only to be grabbed very late. From his handy draw two, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

HIGHLAND RAIDER is another who has finished closer to the victor in his last three outings, the latest when sixth over 1900M, just over a length and a half behind the winner, but he was held up over the closing stages, so he has his excuse. The gelding faces a wideish draw eight, but on the plus side, he will get 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

Race 6

VETOED is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she followed up her penultimate run victory over 1400M with a seventh-place finish next time out over 1600M, just under three and a half lengths back from the winner, but that was at a stronger centre and the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. She has her peak run after returning from a 23-week break and from her useful draw four, she looks to be the one to side with here.

GLOBAL SENSATION turned into the home straight in second last spot, but chased hard to end up in sixth place last time out over 1700M, just under four lengths back from the winner. He has pulled gate seven and will be hoping to be a little handier as they straighten for home.

RAHAAN is a 7-year-old mare who lost two lengths at the start and overraced in the early and middle stages, but kept chasing all the way down to the wire to finish third last time out over 1700M, just over three lengths adrift of the victor. She will have to negotiate a wide draw thirteen, but she will have 2kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice and she should be doing her best work late.

Race 7

TECTONIC PLATE is a 4-year-old filly taking on males, but she is a five-time winner from thirteen starts, the latest victory coming over 1100M by two lengths, notwithstanding racing three wide without cover. She finished best of all to win going away in that event and although drawn wide in gate nine, she could prove hard to topple and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

FUN ENUFF goes for his hat-trick after two victories over 1400M, albeit the latest by just a short-head. He raced three wide without cover in that event, but battled courageously to the wire and from his cosy draw three, he could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

BUTCH’N’BUGS finished second in his last two starts and came the widest of them all into the home straight, but still managed to stay on well over the latter stages to end up 1.3L off the winner last time out over 1500M. The gelding will have to deal with a wideish draw eight, but he should be involved in the finish.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, NICCI KNEE KNACK attracted plenty of betting support when finishing second last time out over 1000M, beaten just a head. He was returning from a 39-week spell that day and the form of that race has been franked. The gelding will have to deal with a wide draw fifteen, but will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

GOLDEN DUBAI won over 1000M three runs back, finished twelfth in his penultimate start over the same sprint trip and then third in his latest outing, again over 1000M, just a length behind the winner. He sat just behind the pace that day and then stayed on well over the closing stages. The gelding has pulled gate six and will be having his peak run after returning from a 16-week absence.

SPEEDY TARGET won his penultimate start over 1000M and then hung in all the way down the home stretch to end up in tenth place in his latest outing over the same trip, 3.8L off the winner. He has a handy draw three and will get the services of a 4kg claiming apprentice.
