Race 5

NONSHALAANT has finished second in his last two runs over this c&d, the latest when beaten a head. He raced up with the speed in that event and just failed to hold on for the victory. The gelding jumps from gate seven and will have 4kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

DAGON followed up his penultimate run victory over five furlongs with a fourth-place finish next time out over the same sprint trip, just over a half lengths back from the winner, but he came three wide into the home straight that day and was bumped at the 100M mark. The gelding is drawn one inside the top pick and will be having his peak run after returning from a 16-week rest.

DESTINY’S BOUNTY had his consistency rewarded with a 0.4L victory last time out over 1100M. He showed plenty of toe that day and from one gate inside the latter and with 4kgs removed from his allocated weight, he should be included in all bets.

Race 6

The day’s value bet, BRIEF STATEMENT is a 5-year-old mare taking on the boys, but she did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight when ending up in third place last time out over five furlongs, 1.8L behind the winner. From draw five and with better luck in running, she could be the one that they all have to beat.

MR MOPPETT had consistent form prior to finishing a tad disappointing seventeenth last time out over 1100M, 7.3L adrift of the winner, but that was at a stronger centre and the form of that race has been franked. The gelding faces draw seven, but he will be hoping to bounce back to his better form here.

AKAKA FALLS has cracked pole position and finished strongly to win his last outing over five furlongs by a length, this despite being crowded at the 600M mark. He seems capable of chalking up a quick double.

Race 7

PIRAEUS only saw daylight at the 200M pole and then finished off his race well, ending up in sixth spot last time out over 2100M, 4.2L behind the winner, but that was at a stronger centre. The gelding gets a useful draw four and will have ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, so he will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

VINCENZO goes for his hat-trick after victories over nine furlongs and the latest over 2100M by one and a half lengths. He struck the front at the 200M pole and then fought off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. From gate six, he should be right up there when they hit the line.
ATHENA’S LAD was slow away and overraced throughout when finishing fourth in his latest outing over 1700M, just under a length and a half off the winner. The gelding has pulled gate three and should not be easily overlooked.

Race 8

UP TO MISCHIEF is a 3-year-old filly taking on males, but she has only had two runs to date, winning on debut over six furlongs and then followed that up with a two-length victory next time out over 1100M, when returning from a 23-week break and could be just about anything. She jumped awkwardly in that contest but finished powerfully over the closing and on that effort, she should appreciate the extra ground on offer here. From her cosy draw two, she could provide Keegan Latham with the last two winners in the day’s Jackpot and as such, she is taken to be the best bet on the program.

DE FORERUNNER was returning from a longer 26-week break and tried to go from jump to wire when ending up in fifth spot last time out over six furlongs, 2.8L behind the winner. The gelding jumps from gate six and is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.

FEIRME PRINCE raced wide throughout but still managed to finish well when ending up in fifth place last time out over six furlongs, just under five lengths adrift of the victor. He is drawn one inside the latter and will be having his peak run after returning from a 25-week break and should be involved in the finish.
