Race 5

ALPINE KANDY is a 3-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she was hampered at the start before finishing strongly to end up in second place last time out over 1100M, just a short head behind the winner, so can be considered an unlucky loser. She returns from a 20-week break, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials and faces a drop in distance, but this should not be an issue as she has won over today’s journey before. She gets a handy draw two and will be hoping to go one better here.

BRINGBACKTHEBEARS has cracked pole position and has consistent formlines to his name, finishing third in his latest outing over 2000M, 1.7L behind the winner. The gelding made good late progress that day and should turn in another honest performance today.

HEROMANIA won his last start over 2100M by putting 3.3L between himself and the opposition, this despite coming three wide into the home straight. He struck the front at the 200M mark to win easing down and whilst drawn wide in gate nine, he will be hoping to chalk up a quick double.

Race 6

Ten of the eighteen runners in this race are making their debut, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connections believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners, BLUE MOVES may well prove to be the best. She is a 2yr old filly taking on males, but she has only had two runs to date, finishing eighth on debut over 1000M and then showing the expected improvement to end up in second spot next time out over the same sprint trip, beaten just a short-head, notwithstanding racing four wide without cover. She would have come on further with that run under her belt and will have the services of ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham, so she will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle. She is also sure to make good use of her pole position.

HUKA FALLS had to weave this way through traffic in the home straight from some way back before finishing third first time out over 1000M, just under three and a half lengths back from the winner and the form of that race has been franked. He would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

MIDNIGHT DYNAMITE showed plenty of toe when finishing fifth on debut over 1000M, 2.8L adrift of the victor and should have come on further with that effort behind him. The gelding does face a wide draw thirteen, but will have Jaden Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd in the saddle to aid his cause and he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 7

Two 4-year-old fillies and a 5-year-old mare could fight out the finish to this race and complete the trifecta, but the day’s value bet, FIELD THE MOMENT is taken to lead the field home. She had finished third in her two runs prior to ending up in sixth place last time out over 1500M, 2.8L behind the winner, but she raced three wide throughout in that event and the form of that race has been franked. The filly has pulled a useful draw four and will have 1.5kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice. She does have her first run for her new trainer, but if fully settled into her new surroundings, she should give a good account of herself here.

SUCCESSFUL was returning from a 20-week rest and had to be eased at the 900M pole when finishing fourth last time out over 1300M, 2.7L back from the winner. She faces the widest draw of them all in gate eleven, but will have ex-SA jockey Teaque Gould in the irons, so she should not be ignored.

AMAZING NICCI has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three starts, the latest when third over 1200M, 1.8L behind the winner, but she was slow away on that occasion and was too far back turning into the home straight. She will have to overcome a wide draw nine, but if jumping on terms today, she should be a big runner in this line-up.

Race 8

A 5-year-old and a 6-year-old mare could dominate the finish to this the last leg of the Jackpot, but the day’s best bet, SASS ‘N’ CHEEK could prove hard to topple. She had her consistency rewarded with a victory last time out over 1400M, albeit by just a short-head. The mare kicked clear of the field at the top of the home stretch and then held off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. She has pulled a cosy draw four and could chalk up her third career win here.

DENI GAL has consistent formlines to her credit, having finished second twice and then third last time out over 1400M, two lengths behind the winner. She raced up with the leaders on that occasion and kept on chasing right down to the wire. From draw seven, she could emerge as the biggest threat to the top pick.

GREAT WEEK went from jump to wire to win his last start over 1500M by a head and from a handy draw two, he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today and could prove hard to reel in over the latter stages.
