Race 5

There are two unraced runners in the field, so keep an eye on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether either of the connection believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for either, or both, should be respected. Two 3yr old and a 4yr old fill could however fight out the finish to this race and secure the trifecta, but of the raced runners, FERRARI GIRL may prove to be the best. She has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three starts, the latest when second over five furlongs, 0.8L behind the winner. She struck the front at the 200M mark that day, but was run out of it very late. From gate six and with her having 1.5kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice, she looks to be the one to side with today.

EIGHT OF A KIND finished third on debut over five furlongs, 3.8L back from the winner and has changed stables twice since then. She returns from a 22 break, but has finished second in her only barrier trial for her latest trainer. She would have learnt from that initial experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

SHECANMIXIT tried to go from jump to wire when ending up in second place last time out over five furlongs, 2.3L adrift of the victor and from draw seven, she is likely to attempt similar tactics today.

Race 6

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. TAYLOR BE SWIFT is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she raced just behind the leaders and then stayed on well to finish sixth last time out over six furlongs, 1.7L off the winner. She is drawn wide in gate 10, but gets the cheek pieces fitted for the first time and if these have the desired effect, she should be a big runner here.

JACOB JOE had his consistency rewarded with his maiden victory last time out over six furlongs, albeit by just a short-head. He was slow away and overraced throughout but nevertheless was able to find enough in the tank to hold on for the victory. The gelding takes on stronger here, but from his kinder draw four, he could prove good enough to chalk up a quick double.

MYSTIC FLAME is a 4yr old filly who is seldom far off the action, finishing third last time out over six furlongs, 1.2L back from the winner. She has a handy draw two and should turn in another honest performance today.

Race 7

The day’s best bet, LOHNRAKI was slow away, raced three wide without cover and was hampered at the 100M mark when finishing second last time out over five furlongs, one and a half lengths behind the winner, but it should be noted that his connections objection against the original second-place finisher for that interference was upheld and the result amended. He has a useful draw three and will have 1.5kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice and could give the trainer/jockey combination of Gary Portelli and Julia Presits their second winner in the day’s Jackpot, should the top pick win the opening leg.

LIGHT PRESS is a 3yr old filly taking on males, but she won her maiden race last time out over five furlongs by putting 2.3L between herself and the opposition when having her first run for her new trainer and returning from a 21-week break and this despite racing three wide throughout. She gets draw six and could be the biggest threat to the top choice.

SKAIFEE followed up his penultimate run victory over five furlongs with a fourth-place finish next time out over the same c&d, 1.8L back from the winner. The gelding showed plenty of toe in that contest and was only chased down very late. He is sure to put is cozy draw to good use to be involved in the finish.

Race 8

ENZINA is a 3yr old filly taking on boys, but she has posted two solid last runs since returning from a 20-week rest and raced wide without cover but still made good late progress to finish third last time out over 1100M, just a length behind the winner. She faces a wide gate eleven, but she should be doing her best work late and is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

SPITFIRE had finished third in his two outings prior to winning his last start over ten furlongs by a length. He raced three wide without cover in that event, before kicking clear of the field at the 200M pole and then holding off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. He jumps from gate five and looks to be the immediate danger to the former. The gelding does return here without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust and does take a big drop in distance, but nevertheless, he should not be easily discarded.

ALMAHERO won his penultimate start over six furlongs and then finished fifth over the same trip next time out, 4.2L adrift of the victor, but he had to be checked at the 1000M mark in that event and never really recovered to get back into the race. The form of that contest has however been franked and with him having his peak run after returning from an 18-week rest and being drawn in gate four, he should be included in all bets.
