Race 4

This looks to be a tricky race to start off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. The tentative top pick goes to MULVADER who followed up his penultimate run victory over a mile with a ninth place finish next time out when dropping down to six furlongs, just over six lengths back from the winner, when returning from a 21-week break. He has a wideish draw eight, but on the plus side he will have 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and the extra ground available today should be to his advantage.

POINT OUT also won his penultimate start, but in his case over six furlongs and then finished fifth next time out over 1300M, just over three lengths back from the victor, this after racing up with the pace. From his kinder gate three, he will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways here.

ELTOROSON had his consistency rewarded with his maiden victory last time out over seven furlongs, albeit by just a neck. He went from jump to wire that day and although taking on stronger here, from draw six, he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics.

Race 5

The day’s value bet, DOWNTOWN’S ABBEY is a 3-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she has only had three runs to date, finishing third twice before showing improvement to win by a half-length last time out over six furlongs. She raced up with the leaders that day and then struck the front at the top of the home straight, before holding off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. The filly will have to negotiate a wideish draw eight, but she may well be good enough to chalk up a quick double.

CHOP THE ICE is drawn one outside the top choice and put his disappointing penultimate start over seven furlongs behind him when finishing second next time out over 1100M, beaten just a short-head. He raced three wide throughout in that event and hung in down the home straight, suffering some interference at the 150M mark. The resultant objection lodged against the winner for that impediment was however overruled and the original result was allowed to stand.

KISSING SUPIDO jumped awkwardly, but recovered quickly to show plenty of toe to win his last start over six furlongs by a length. The gelding is drawn in gate seven and should be included in all bets.

Race 6

SYDNEY GAL is a 4-year-old filly taking on males, but she showed solid improvement to finish second in her latest outing over this c&d, one and a half lengths off the winner. She raced three wide without cover on that occasion and was hampered in the home straight. Her connections lodged an objection against the winner for that interference, but this was overruled in the boardroom. The filly has a useful draw three and will be looking to make amends today.

SWEET TREATS is a 2-year-old filly taking on older horses and was returning from a 15-week rest and had to be eased at the 600M pole before ending up in tenth spot last time out over 1100M, five and a half lengths adrift of the victor, so she had her excuse. She has cracked pole position and should be right up there when they hit the line.

BOUNTY BY KNIGHT has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when battling all the way down to the wire to finish second over six furlongs, just a half-length behind the winner. The gelding was having his first run for his new trainer and returning from a 38-week absence and should not be easily overlooked, jumping from gate five. There is an unraced runner in the field, so keep an eye on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether his connections believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for him should be respected.

Race 7

DEVILS DAUGHTER is a 3-year-old filly taking on boys, but she has only had two runs to date, finishing second on debut over seven furlongs and then ending up in fourth spot next time out over the same journey, 3.7L behind the winner. She finished strongly from near the back of the field in that event and the form of that race has been franked. She would have come on further with that run under her belt and is sure to appreciate the extra ground on offer here. Jumping from gate five, she could prove hard to topple and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s program.

BO BO BEWARE made good late progress when showing marked improvement to finish fifth last time out over seven furlongs, 3.2L back from the victor. The gelding was returning from a 63-week spell that day and is drawn wide in gate ten, but the fact that his connections have brought him back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that he still has something more to offer them.

PROCEED stayed on well when finishing fifth last time out over seven furlongs, 5.7; behind the winner, suggesting that he should enjoy going the extra distance of today’s contest. From his kinder draw three and with Jaden Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd in the irons, he should be involved in the finish.
