Race 4

KANDINSKY ABSTRACT was slow away, but stayed on well when finishing sixth last time out over seven furlongs, five lengths behind the winner, but the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. He returns from a 23-week break, but has had two barrier trials, winning the latest and gets a handy draw two. The colt represents the power trainer/jockey combination of Chris Waller and James McDonald and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

FLYING DESTINY has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when third over six furlongs, just over a half-length behind the winner and if he has continued down the same path of improvement, he should be right up there when they hit the line. He has his first run after a shorter 20-week rest, but has also had two barrier trials, winning the latest. The gelding is drawn wide in gate nine, but he should be doing her best work late.

POWER OF THE BRAVE in turn, resumes after an even shorter 17-week absence, but he too has had two barrier trials, winning the latest. He had finished second twice prior to ending up in seventh place last time out over a mile, 6.3L adrift of the victor, but he raced wide throughout in the event, so he had his excuse. From a kinder draw five, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 5

The day’s value bet, POWERFUL PEG is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she has cracked pole position and raced three wide throughout when finishing fifth in her latest outing over six furlongs, two and a half lengths back from the winner. She made good late progress in that contest and with 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice, she could prove hard to topple.

HUESCA followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a fourth-place finish next time out over seven furlongs, two lengths back from the winner. He tried to go from jump to wire that day and from his wide draw nine, he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.

FALL FOR CINDY is another 4-year-old filly in the race. She has consistent formlines to her name, finishing second last time out over seven furlongs, 0.8L off the winner, but she did come the widest into the home straight in that event. The filly returns from an 18-week spell, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials and notwithstanding a wide gate ten, she should be included in all bets.

Race 6

RENOSU won over six furlongs three runs back, finished fourth in his penultimate start over five furlongs and then tenth in his latest outing over 1100M, 3.8L behind the winner and has finished fifth in a subsequent barrier trial. He tried to go from gun to tape that day and from a wide gate twelve, he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy. The gelding will have non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey Jeff Lloyd in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

UNFLINCHING showed plenty of toe when improving to finish second last time out over five furlongs, beaten just a head. He is not drawn that much better in gate nine, but on the plus side, he will have 2kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

DASHING LEGEND is a 4-year-old filly taking on males, but she has consistent formlines to her name and jumped awkwardly, bumping another runner and then did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight when finishing seventh last time out over 1100M, just under three and a half lengths behind the winner. She was also reported to be lame in her off-hind leg, so that effort is best ignored. The filly is sure to put her pole position to good use.

Race 7

TERRESTAR jumped awkwardly and raced three wide without cover, but stayed on well to just fair to overhaul the winner when second last time out over seven furlongs, beaten just a head. She jumps from a useful gate two and looks to be the one to side within this line-up.

She renews her rivalry with DEFINING who won the race mentioned above, when returning from a lengthy 51-week spell and a change of trainer. She is however draw wide in gate nine and is 1.5kgs worse off with the top pick on today’s weights, so may find it difficult to confirm that result.

DESIAH followed up her penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a second-place finish next time out over seven furlongs, 0.8L back from the winner, but she stayed on well that day and the form of that race has been franked. The filly faces a wide draw eleven, but will have 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.
