Race 7

BELLA NIPOTINA is a 7-year-old mare taking on the boys, but she is a three-time Group 1 winner who finished second last time out over 1000M (G3), beaten just a head when returning from a 10-week rest. She had to be held up between the 400M and 300M mark that day but then finished off her race strongly. The mare jumps from gate five and the extra ground on offer here will be to her liking.

GIGA KICK is a two time Group 1 winner who was returning from a lengthy 52 week spell when finishing fifth in the 1000M race mentioned above, three lengths behind the victor, but he raced three wide without cover on that occasion. The gelding has won a subsequent barrier trial and from one gate inside the top pick, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

THINK ABOUT IT is also a two time Group 1 winner. He finished fifth last time out over 1300M (G1), 3.3L back from the winner and has had two barrier trials since then, finishing third in the first and second in the latest. Whilst drawn the widest of them all in gate eight, he should nevertheless be included in all bets.

Race 8

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested.

UNUSUAL LEGACY has consistent formlines to his name and followed up his penultimate run victory over 1800M with a second place finish next time out over 1900M, beaten just a head. From his handy draw four, he should turn in another honest performance here.

FUTURE HISTORY has posted two solid last runs, finishing third in his penultimate outing over 1700M and then second last time out when stepping up to 2000M, just a short-head behind the winner. He picked up the running at 200M mark, but hung out over the closing stages to be grabbed in the shadow of the post. The gelding has his peak run after returning from a 16 week break and from one gate inside the former, he should be a big runner here.

ZARDOZI is a 4yr old filly bumping males, but she jumped awkwardly bumping another runner when finishing fifth last time out over 2000M (G3), just over four lengths off the winner. She battled all the way down to the wire in that event and although drawn wide in gate ten, she gets the services of non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd to aid her cause.

Race 9

This looks like another open event, but the value may rest with KOVALICA who has cracked pole position and who finished third last time out over 1400M (G2), one and a half lengths behind the winner, when returning from a 12 week rest. He has finished fourth in a subsequent barrier trial to showcase his well-being and now renews his rivalry with ROYAL PATRONAGE who won the same race mentioned above.

However, the former is 3.5kgs better off at today’s weights, which should be enough to reverse that result. In addition, the latter faces a wide gate seventeen, which won’t make things easy for him.

TOM KITTEN followed up his penultimate run victory over 1400M with a fifth place finish next time out over the same journey (G3), just under three lengths back from the winner, but it should be noted that he was crowded and severely hampered at the 1100M pole that day. The gelding will have to deal with an even wider draw nineteen, but he could complete the trifecta.

Race 10

OSTRAKA goes for his hat-trick after victories over 1200M and the latest over 1100M by one Hand a half lengths, when returning from a 14 week rest. He raced three wide throughout and struck the front at the 300M mark to win going away. The gelding has a useful gate two and will be hoping to chalk up his fourth career win and is made the best bet on the day’s card.

MORAVIA had to be steadied at the 800M mark, but finished off his race well to win his latest outing over 1200M by 2.3L. The gelding is drawn one outside the top pick and will be having his peak run after returning from a 13 week spell. He could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.

RHYTHM OF LOVE won his penultimate start over 1400M and then finished second in his last start over 1400M, just a half length behind the winner. He tried to go from jump to wire that day and from his wide draw twelve, he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today. The gelding has his first run for his new trainer and retunes from an 18 week break, but has had two barrier trials, winning the latest. If fully settled into his new surroundings, he should be involved in the finish.
