Race 7

SPRING LEE is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she has consistent formlines to her name and followed up her penultimate run victory over 1100M with a second-place finish next time out over the same sprint trip, 1.3L back from the winner, but she overraced in the middle stages that day, so she had her excuse. She returns from an 11-week rest, but did finish third in her only barrier trial to showcase her well-being. The filly gets a handy draw three and could be hard to topple. As such, she is made the best bet on the day’s card.

COMPELLING TRUTH completed his quartet after three victories over 1000M and his penultimate start win over 1100M (by putting seven lengths between himself and the opposition) and then his latest win last time out back over 1000M by 3.8LHehe showed plenty of toe that day and from one gate outside the top choice, he could prove hard to reel in over the closing stages.

STROMBOLI is seldom far off the action and had to be held up at the 1500M mark when finishing fifth last time out over 1200M, 1.3L back from the winner. The gelding has his first run after returning from a 28-week break, but has had two barrier trials, winning the first and finishing second in the latest. He jumps from draw six and gets the service of non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd to aid his cause and should be involved in the finish.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, CHARTERHOUSE was bumped at the start and crowded in the closing stages when finishing third last time out over 1500M, 0.7L off the winner. He has pulled a useful draw four and champion jockey James McDonald retains the ride, which is encouraging. The gelding gets a set of blinkers fitted for the first time and if these have the desired effect, he should be a big runner here.

He renews her rivalry with MORE SECRETS who showed marked improvement when finishing second last time out in the same race over 1500M mentioned above, just under a half lengths back from the victor. She is a 7-year-old mare taking on males and made good late progress over the latter stages in that event, notwithstanding her jockey putting up 0.5kgs overweight. The mare has pulled gate seven and whilst she is 1.5kgs better off than the former at today’s weights, she is not as consistent and may therefore find it difficult to confirm that last result. Either way, there should not be much separating the pair when they reach the line.

ESTADIO MESTALLA has finished second in his last two starts, the latest over 1600M, when beaten a head, but he was bumped at the top of the home straight that day and the resultant objection lodged against the winner was however overruled and the original result was allowed to stand. From his cosy draw two, he will be hoping to go one better today.

Race 9

CONTEMPORARY missed out on his hat-trick after victories over 1100M and 1200M when finishing a chasing hard second last time out back over 1100M, two and a half lengths behind the winner. He gets gate six and will be looking to bounce back to winning ways again.

KAZOU is a 5-year-old mare taking on boys, but she had her consistency rewarded with a victory last time out over 1200M, albeit by just a short-head. She jumped awkwardly on that occasion bumping another runner, but struck the front at the entrance to the home stretch and then held off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. The mare is drawn one inside the top pick and could emerge as his biggest danger.

DANAUSTAR has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when third over 1300M, 1.2L behind the winner and will be having his peak run after returning from a 23-week spell. The gelding has a handy draw two and should be included in all bets.

Race 10

This looks to be a tricky race to end off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. The tentative top pick goes to LITTLE COINTREAU who has cracked pole position and who has finished third over 1400M in his two runs prior to winning his latest start over the same journey by a head, this despite being slow away and bumped shortly after the start and then again at the 250M pole. The form of that race has been franked and he will be looking to chalk up a quick double.

SILVANITO has consistent formlines to his credit, finishing second in his last three outings, the latest over 1300M, just a head behind the winner, when trying to go from jump to wire. He on the other hand has a wide draw thirteen, but he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today and does have Zac Lloyd in the saddle.

RUSSIAN RONI finished a disappointing nineth last time out over 1400M, just under nine lengths back from the winner, but his jockey reported that he did not act in the soft going that day, so that effort is best ignored. The gelding jumps from gate five and will be having his peak run after returning from a 12-week rest.
