Race 5

This looks to be a tricky race to start off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. The tentative top pick goes to OAKFIELD REDGUM who is a 5-year-old mare taking on the boys, but she has consistent formlines to her name and followed up her penultimate run victory over a mile with a sixth place finish next time out over 1700M, just over two lengths back from the winner. She tried to go from jump to wire that day and from her wide draw twelve and with her having 2kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice, she is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.

PURE HYDROGEN overraced in the early and middle stages and came five wide into the home straight, but stayed on well to finish fourth last time out over 1500M, two lengths back from the winner. He on the other hand has a handy draw three and should be right up there when they hit the line.

NYOTA is another 5-year-old mare in the race. She has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three starts, the latest when third over ten furlongs, 0.7L behind the winner. She tried to go from gun to tape in that event and from a wide gate thirteen, she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy. The mare will have ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

Race 6

TURBULENT had to be steadied off the heels of another runner at the 700M mark and then came three wide into the home straight, but still managed to battle all the way down to the wire to end up in third spot last time out over five furlongs, just over a half-length off the victor. He returned with blood in his one nostril, so he had his excuse and from gate five and with Keagan Latham up, he looks to be the one to side with here.

RAPT is a 3-year-old filly taking on males, but she won over six furlongs three runs back, finished fourth in her penultimate start over 1300M and then third in her latest outing over six furlongs, 1.3L behind the winner, when returning from a longer 23-week spell. She had to be held up between the 400M and 150M pole in that event, so that effort was encouraging. The form of that race has also been franked and from one gate inside the former, she will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.

WORX has consistent formlines to his credit and slipped at the start, finding himself towards the rear of the field, but finished well to end up in third place last time out over 1300M, 1.8L behind the winner. He in turn is drawn one inside the latter and will be having his peak run after returning from a lengthy 62-week absence. In addition, the gelding will have 1.5 kg removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, BULLY FOR YOU missed out on his hat-trick after victories over 1300M and six furlongs when finishing fourth last time out back over 1300M, 1.7L behind the winner, but he had to be held up at the top of the home stretch on that occasion. The gelding has pulled gate six and will get the services of a 1.5kg claiming apprentice.

OAKFIELD DUKE is seldom far off the action, finishing fifth last time out over 1100M, just over one and a half lengths back from the winner, but he was slow away that day and came the widest of them all into the home straight. The gelding is drawn wide in gate eighteen, but he is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race to turn in another honest performance here.

FRENCH MARINE is the stable companion of the latter and raced just behind the pace before not quite going on with his effort over the latter stages when finishing sixth in his latest outing over 1300M, just under three lengths adrift of the winner, suggesting that the drop in trip will be to his liking. The gelding will have to overcome the widest draw twenty, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas and makes a solid back-up for the yard.

Race 8

PARADE GROUND had his consistency rewarded with his maiden victory last time out over 1500M by putting two and a half lengths between himself and the opposition. He kicked clear of the field at the 250M mark to win going away and although taking on stronger here, he has cracked a useful draw two and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

REMATCH won over a mile three runs back, finished third in his penultimate start over ten furlongs and then tenth in his latest outing when dropping down to six furlongs, five and a half-length behind the winner. He was returning from a 20-week rest that day and whilst drawn wide in gate sixteen, he should do much better here returning to what appears to be a more suitable journey.

MOVADER is a 4-year-old filly taking on boys, but she has finished second in her last two starts, the latest over 1300M, just a half-length back from the victor. She sat just behind the leaders that day and finished off her race well. The filly will also have to deal with a wide gate thirteen, but nevertheless, she should be involved in the finish.
