Race 4

SO NEWCHEE THINKS is a 3-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she has finished second in her last three outings, the latest over 1850m, beaten one and a half-length, when trying to go from jump to wire. She is drawn wide in gate eleven, but she is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today and will be looking to go one better here and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

SEA STRIKE finished third on debut over 1600M, beaten just a head. He would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he could be the one to trouble the top pick the most. He will also get a set of blinkers fitted for the first time and if these have the desired effect, he should be a big runner here, despite a wide draw nine.

DESCENDING MIST ended up in second place in his last two starts and finished strongly from some way back last time out over 1700M, just a half-length back from the victor. The gelding is drawn even wider in gate thirteen, but he should be doing his best work late to be involved in the finish.

Race 5

POINT BASSE has won three of his last four outings and finished second in the other, so he clearly has some ability. His latest victory came over 1400M by a short-head, despite having to be held up approaching the home turn and in the home straight. He has pulled a handy draw three and although returning from a 36-week break, he has had three barrier trials, finishing third in the latest.

THE HUNGARIAN won over 1900M three runs back, finished sixth in his penultimate start over 1600M and then tenth in his latest outing over 2000M, 6.3L behind the winner, but he was bumped at the start that day. The gelding has his first run after a slightly shorter 34-week break, but has had two barrier trials, finishing third in the latest and from one gate outside the former and having ex-SA jockey Donavon Dillon in the irons, he will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

WORX had solid form to his credit before being a tad disappointing when finishing ninth last time out over 1400M, just over three lengths off the winner, but it should be noted that he was bumped at the start on that occasion, raced three wide without cover and then came four wide into the home stretch, so he had his excuses. He has pulled gate six and he should appreciate the drop in distance.

Race 6

TAPA KICK missed out on her hat trick after victories over 1200M and 1500M, finishing second last time out when stepping up to 1600M, 2.3L behind the winner, but he did jump awkwardly that day. He recovered quickly to pick up the lead, only to be run out of it late. The gelding returns from a 26-week break, but has had two barrier trials, finishing fourth in the latest to showcase his well-being. Although drawn wide in gate ten, he will have 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

INVASIVE DREAMS is a 3-year-old filly taking on males, but she has posted two solid last runs and was forced five wide in the home stretch when finishing second in her latest outing over 1400M, 2.3L behind the victor. She has a useful gate three and should be right up there when they hit the line.

JONNY BE SWIFT has won twice, finished third twice before ending up in fourth spot last time out over 1400M, two and a half lengths adrift of the victor, this after he was hampered at the start in that event, but he still chased hard all the way down to the wire. The gelding is drawn one inside the latter and should be included in all bets.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, SKY ARTIST is a 3-year-old filly taking on boys, but she won over 1200M three runs back, finished twelfth in her penultimate start over the same sprint trip and then third in his latest outing over 1100M, 0.8L behind the winner. She has her first run after returning from an 18-week absence, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials and from a cosy draw three, she looks to be the one that they all have to beat.

TAKING THE MIKKI also won three runs back, but in his case over 1250m, finished second in his penultimate start over 1200M and then fifth last time out over 1350M, two and a half lengths back from the victor, but he did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day, only seeing daylight at the 150M mark and being bumped at the 100M pole.

The gelding has pulled gate five and should keep the top pick honest.
BROK CAFE is another 3-year-old filly in the race. She has finished third in two of her last three starts, the latest over 1800M, 2.8L behind the winner, but she did come three wide into the home straight that day, before making good late progress over the latter stages. The filly returns from a 23-week break, but has had two barrier trials, winning the first and finishing fourth in the latest. She on the other hand is drawn wide in gate seventeen, but she is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race.
